For brushing the stripe- Tape over the desired area with blue fine line, tape the sides of that with blue fine line and then 3/4" tape, then pull out the center fine line area, then brush it in. You could theoretically just tape a little further and spray it at that point for less of a stepped line, but you'll figure it out either way. With the fine line you get a consistent width of a stripe. You can hide your squared swoosh outlines this way as well.

Had to read that a couple times, but yeah I get it. Sounds like a good idea for making a nice line with my amateur brushing skills.

Here's a question for anyone - The sponging was done with basecoat which technically is supposed to be cleared within 24 hrs. But it's past that already and it may be weeks before I shoot it. So I'm supposed to scuff sand, but of course I don't want to do that to the sponging. Can I shoot the clear on the sponged areas as is? Should I scuff really lightly with 600 or maybe scotchbrite? I think sanding much at all would mess up the sponging pattern.

Also - i have some bottles of Testors white enamel paint for models. I'm thinking it's probably fine for the white stripes and will save me $20 on another can of One Shot. Any reason it won't work? I can do some tests I suppose.

I totally understand about the swoop edges bugging you.......it would me too. Really liking the sponging pattern. I believe you will be OK clear spraying over that area if you leave it a week or two, many times the paint needs to be cleared by a certain time or it crazes.......the other instruction is to wait till it fully sets/offgasses which will suit you. You can always prepare a test sample now and see what happens when you want to clear it. Testors paint should work if it goes over a clear which is given enough time to fully set (acts like a barrier + if you don't like it it is easier to get rid of while not messing with the underlying paint).......again your test sample will help you with that process. That's a very neat way to get the pin stripe mentioned by Sean D

The white will be covering the edge between the sponging and the red. So the testors will contact the sponging partially. I might still go get the one shot to be safe.

I would not suggest using testers for pinstripes. I understand being budget oriented but if it reacts to the paint you already have done you will loose all the money and time you have already spent. My .02 Nice job on the paint so far.

I'm thinking about SeanD's method of taping stripes. I put some tape on to get an idea how it would look with a white stripe of this thickness. I like it but how the heck will I make a sharp point? I already found out that it's very hard to cut a nice point with this tape. It's too thick and not sticky enough for the abuse of cutting a sharp point.
I guess I can tape the point with regular masking tape on the outside edge of this and when I pull this piece off it would be ok, But how to make the inside point? If I cut a point with regular tape on glass like I did earlier there is a challenge making the transition from the regular tape to the fine line tape. That caused problems earlier.

What kind of tape are you using? Napa carries good pin stripping tape. Ask the guys at Napa paint shop what they would do and what paint they recommend. I can't wait to see your finished product. It's going to be a cool paint job.

paint shop I've been working with is super helpful. I have to go get more hardener and one shot so I will take a part with me and show them what I'm doing.

The paint shop said it was really important to scuff the silver sponged area. So I used gray Scotchbrite in a circular motion. That seemed to do the job without making visible scratch marks (a problem I had with the first application of silver). I've done most of the taping SeanD suggested. It's very time consuming but going OK. Pics to come later.
