I made brackets from aluminum plates. I had to grind the boss's on the forks a little narrower. The master is SV650 also. I wanted one without the goofy looking remote reservoir that's popular lately. There may be pics in the early part of this thread. Although I did the mods before starting the thread, so no detailed pics. I'll shoot some for you later.

I'm working on cam timing now. It's a bit confusing. I've decided I want to advance both cams about 2 degrees from stock. I won't change the lobe separation. Stock is 110 lobe center on IN and 110 on EX according to our pal zed1015. Does that mean my desired 2 degree advance on both cams should be 108 on IN and 112 on EX? Is this correct?

OK I got them set at 108 in and 112 ex. I'm just not sure if that means they are both "advanced"

Nelson, that thing just keeps looking better! In regards to your wheel/sprocket deal with the tabs, have you considered safety wiring? Might look cool, and you wouldn't have to redo it very often...

Also, you said the SV brakes interfered with the wire wheels before you trimmed the fork mounts...would they have cleared the mags without fork mods?

I am really enjoying your thread and it has been part of the reason mine is now stripped to the frame! :woohoo:

Thanks, are you doing a thread on yours?

I never tried the SV brakes with the wire wheels, only the mags. Maybe someone cleverer than me could make them fit without grinding down the fork mounts (I'm no machinist) but that was what worked for me.

The tabs will stay on the wheel for now. I have been trying very hard to resist the temptation to go back and redo things differently. It happens now and then anyway, but it will add up to the project taking a lot longer.

I hear you on wanting to keep moving forward!

I am going to start a build thread as soon as I get some of the pictures organized. I didn't intend on things getting this far out of hand when I started...cliche as that may be! Now I am down the rabbit hole for sure...

Hey KZ gurus, can you answer this for me?

Well OK then... I answered these for myself and finished the cam timing. The motor is assembled and ready to put in!!

I'm behind on posting pics. Here's what's happened in the last couple weeks or so.

valve cover painted and ends polished. Those black cam end caps were junk. They are from ebay. I think the guy is doing his own metal casting or something. They looked OK, but the fit was perfect on just 1 of the 4. The others all required careful filing and fit checking.

When I bought them they appeared to be sand cast aluminum with no machine work done to them.

Media blasted caliper waiting for paint. As you can see I did not disassemble it. This is to save time. I already know these calipers work great, so why spend more time? The hose is an old one that I won't be using on the bike.

And finally... the engine is ready to go in! I just need to track down all the brackets and bolts and make sure they're cleaned up and good lookin'. ;)

Unfortunately I seem to have misplaced the oil drain plug.. :S Odd. I remember cleaning it up on the wire wheel... I had it in a bag with the oil filter... but it ain't there now...

Oh well I'm sure it will turn up.
