wondering about digital speedo...are you happy with the Acewell? I've noticed they are available with lots of indicators. Do you know if ones with a fuel and gear indicators could be made to work on a old KZ? I'm ignorant of how the computerized devices interface with pre computer bikes?

One question OMR- do you have an oil temp gauge installed so as to evaluate the before and after effects of the cooler? Your summer riding climate is the perfect torture test for an air cooled engine.

Good question... Last summer here I measured the actual oil temp @ 273*F after a 20 minute ride, 95 degree ambient temp...
I measured throughout different places such as intakes, exhaust ports, engine cases etc... but was more concerned with the high temp of the oil and it wasn't even HOT yet...
NOTE: Here in AZ, we reach 115*F mid summer temps...
So, waiting for 95*F to come where I'll perform the same measurements and post my findings...
Almost forgot, I also have switched over to synthetic oil so I hope to be somewhere around 220/230*F range.
I'll be real happy for that equates to a cooler running engine as well... :woohoo:
BTW... I used a laser temp for the casing and such and a Fluke temp meter with thermal bead for insertion into the engine case thus oil through the oil fill port in the clutch area....

Awesome OMR, I figuered you would have pre-cooler data
As far as the instrumentation, I would think that as along as you use the same tools, its the differential measurements that matter just as much as the absolute readings

OMR, do you have any pre-cooler oil temp data for the peak of summer (115F) oil temps?

   ...
Naw, just minor tack welds insuring everything was good... Bend a little here and there for final fit. The main bead is on the back side so these were cleaned up and painted....
Oh BTW, the RV was rented out so you'll have to sleep in the back yard....
Oh and Mark.... Damn, why waste a good tire or is your oil pump not working... Oh wait I know.... You have the coil mod installed!

Oil only... ~ 285*F after a run....
NOTE: When it's 115 out, don;t enjoy riding much. It's like a large hair dryer blowing on you...:S Usually we'll do an early morning run up the hill to Payson and the White Mountains. 7am 90*F out.. Up the hill in the mid 70's...
Ya I know, holly shit! Henceforth it will be real interesting to see what I end up with in measurements due to synthetic and cooler...
We only have 72*F today... I have to make a run for figure 8 3/8" line clamps and emissions, I'll take an oil temp reading just to see what it comes out to and post...
Keep my fingers crossed, 220*F and I will shart myself!... Oops, did I write that out loud...

Better then expected... ![B) B)](/media/kunena/emoticons/1.png)
Granted, the real comparison is at 95*F when last measured but this is extremely promising considering only a 20 degree ambient difference...
Today @ 75*F... As mentioned, Synthetic oil and cooler now... Measured 182*F in the oil after a nice run... :woohoo: Yeah baby...![B) B)](/media/kunena/emoticons/1.png)
Oh yeah, got some oil cooler connectors to keep the line nice and clean.... Yeah I know, I'm a Pimp....
