How much is to much...


Using the epoxy as a coat.
I guess I could spray layer after layer with coat on the carbon, but since this is not any side panel cover, or a little detail, I finally stopped.

In order to be able to airbrush the resin it is thinned out with thinner.
You can also use alcohol.
Since its cold where I worked, I had to go around 30% with thinner.

First I mixed the resin and hardener, and then the thinner.
You loose strength when using thinner in the resin, but that is not any big deal, its more then enough strength for this use.

Using airbrush. Also using this for Gun-Kote.

Here is the joint, non visible on the behind. Its a little overlay, 1 cm or something.

I think this is enough clear coat, I could airbrush for hours... :woohoo: :woohoo:

Since I have chopped off the left side of the swing, the old needle bearing is to wide, so I need to go down 5mm, from 25mm to 20mm, but thats not a problem,

Roynor I believe this is your project? I assume so. Wow! I see that your stuff and ideas are looking very nice. And the carbon fiber!?
I wanted to do my tail, side covers and fenders as well from that material yet have no experience with that. Saw they have some body wrap that can be designed any way you want it. Adhesive on one side but that costs more to do than actually painting the body parts to look like carbon fiber.
I wonder.... what would be the feasibility of covering the tank, side covers and tail fin with a thin layer of carbon fiber and making it look like it grew there. I much like the look of carbon fiber and think that along with black and chrome it would look very sharp.
Other question that I have is that the heads and swingarm you have in the picture looks like they are anodized. How durable would the head be to all the heat that comes off of it. I have the half moon anodized gasket parts that fit with the cam cover on my bike and they have faded in less than a summer's worth of ride. I have never seen anything done like that on parts that get so hot. I hope it works great for you!

it forced me to use a 170 tire instead of the 180.
I will try going back to the stock hub and fitting a 190 tire next time i nee a new tire. This will force me to run the rim to the right but i'd like to try it anyways. I just love the look of those big ass tires.

saxjonz,roy used a product called gun kote for the gold.it is a sprayed and baked on finish.similar to powdercoat,hopefully these motors won't get hot enough to effect it.i am sure after he recovers from yesterday's concert,and the swelling in his head goes down enough to type he will reply to your q's.:laugh:

Thanks Banshee, I really like the looks of that stuff and maybe its just the pic but it really looks anodized. I think he is going to have a killer looking bike when he is done with it.

Its a pain in the ass that centering question, I reckon with this milling I can come very close (in fact straight on) to centering and still use the original tire...BUT, as we know, its hard to do measurement when the parts not fit together properly.
It all will reveal when its machined to fit. :dry:

And as 531blackbanshee says, he is riding with the rear tire a little out of center, and doesnt notice any problems.

Wonder if there are (any?) new bikes with a offset rear?

I am using Gun-Kote, thats oven baked paint that will hold 300 degrees Celsius after its been cured in the oven.
Its curing time after I have sprayed it on its approx 1 hour in the oven with something around 160 degrees Celsius.
Its a very thin paint, and its also dissipate heat, that I think is very interesting.
Its a lot about it the previous pages somewhere.

Here are some from the Homesite Gun-Kote:

Gun Kote and its uses:

1. Exterior of weapons (including clips) of all types from handguns to G5 and G6 heavy artillery.

2. Engine blocks and heads to dissipate heat.

3. Engine water jackets and water pumps to act as a barrier between dissimilar metals.

4. Protection from corrosion while helping to transfer heat and coolant.

5. Transmission cases and rear end housings to transfer heat out of the housings and when used with Gear Kote and Engine Gard Oil Treatment will result in an average 35% reduction of heat.

6. Radiators, Oil and Transmission Coolers, to dissipate heat by 8% to 10% faster then bare metal while providing excellent corrosion protection.

7. Brake Calipers, to provide heat dissipation, corrosion protection resulting in longer life.

These are just some of the applications of Gun Kote. You are limited only by your imagination!
