Z1000R and Z1000J - Lots of pics, and Gun-Kote oven baked paint.

Hello everyone, here are my projects, one Z1000R 83 model, and one Z1000J 82 model.

As you can see, the previous owners of these bikes have just parked and forgotten them. They are both good friends of mine, and I know they have bad conscious about this


Oki, some pictures.


The Z1000R has been parked in a wet and moister garage since 1992.


Out in daylight, after been in the dark for 16 years.


The crankshaft is not rusty, but as you can see its not mint condition,,,










Z1000J has been parked since 1996, but luckily in a warm garage. Its a 1100 engine. The plan is to get this beauty up and go before April, I really hope the engine will function after been parked that long, what do you think about this?






The frame was powdercoated just before it was parked.




Here are some goodies I just bought, I will put a new topic under chassis, with measurements for these forks and swingarm. Its from a Hayabusa.

I drove 1200km, from Bergen to Oslo, to collect the Hayabusa parts, and this is from the mountain, on one of the main roads between the to biggest towns in Norway. Because of the blizzard and storm we needed to drive in a long line, and I waited for 4 hours 1200 meters over the sea, for better weather. They closed this road for 2 days just after I passed because of the storm. Its really slippery and bad roads in Norway wintertime.

Well, i will update the work when somethings happen, the 1000R is demantled in thousand parts, and the frame is soon on the way to powdercoating, but I will use time and money on the Z1000J first.

Wow, you sure have your work cut out for you with those bikes! :ohmy:


If it were me, I'd be on the fence about slapping my friends upside their heads for letting those bikes sit like that, or thanking them for allowing me to ressurect them. :whistle:

I'm most certainly looking forward to the project pics and details as you revive those beauts.

cant wait to see the hayabusa parts fitted up, particularly the USD front end!

Good luck, RoyNorB) That ELR shure looks like a handfull. If I were you I´d make the J a doner bike to make the ELR rock! But that´s just me, I´m partial to Lawson-Green machines....

I will build both of them up, but I think they gone end up in some kind of streetfighters, both of them.

The 1000J frame and engine is hanging in my garage now, today I just have done some small repaint/freshup on the frame, since it is powdercoated from before its in good condition, there are only a few small cracks from engine swap or something.
I am using POR-15 painting.

I played a little with the Hayabusa swing today also, and it isn't so hard that I expected to maybe use it.

But I have also bought to GSX1100 (GS1100) swingarms on Ebay.de, also the German Ebay. They should come any day now.


I will use it with double shocks, so some welding is needed.


Some space, luckily enough.


Just enough space...or maybe not...hard to tell before its proper bolted on.

The Hayabusa stem is 30mm in the bottom, Z1000R is 28mm, the plan is to swap them, any suggestions? I think I have to find a machinist. Hmm.

great projects,congratulations on the score.are you going to use the busa swingarm upside down(bracing on bottom)?a machinist can make the stem swap workout,no sweat.can't wait to see some progress.

the hole that is left after you remove the shock will be a great place for a nitrous bottle.:evil:

Yes, the bracing on bottom.

After what I can see on the earlier threads in the forum, is it welding on the stem to bring it up to the right Hayabusa dimension. And machine it to right measurements after.

Can`t wait ether to get the bike(s) on the road, the only problem for me are the Norwegian rigid rules, this are things that are strictly forbidden to do (swapping front ends and swing), but its just to ignore that.:whistle: (and no problem left).
