The CSR is a "J" motor. It is Identical except the bore, cams, and color to the GPZ. The GPZ also had the Fuel Injection. Otherwise all the parts are interchangeable. And YES I am keeping the 16" rear rim. I intentionally put it on the bike from a LTD eBay auction. The basic configuration of cosmetics and geometry the bike is as it will be. The engine is the only undecided. I did find out from MTC that the "J" block is a bit thicker than the pre-81 blocks and will accept sleeves for a 1261 kit without windowing threw anywhere, and still leave me .1" of sleeve thickness. I think that this is the route I will go. I know when boring a stock sleeve on a kz1000(1015) to a 1103 there is only.06" sleeve thickness on sleeve wall. But this may change again and I may finally settle on the 1197. Most likely because I have two if these kits just sitting around, if for no other reason besides, the one that I will save $700.

That's an amazing project!

Thank You
The only thing which I could not make my mind about was, what size motor to build. Wel, I made the decision to build two motors. One 1135 for everyday riding and a 1200 for when the erge hits me. Delema fixed.:silly:

Well, I started working on the head. I did mention that I found a 84 GPz1100 head. I finally got some work finished. First I stripped it down to clean metal. I did a new valve job. I matched the boots to the intake ports and got the porting and polishing almost finished. Valves are NEW and ground. I have some 435 lift cams with 288 duration. I will post some pictures of the head tomorrow.

I have a spare J block off GPz1100. The sleeves are larger to start with so you can make a larger bore than the 998 J block. It is presently stock but because of scoring needs 1/2mm taken out. Send me a PM and maybe we can swap some parts. My parts are in GA. I'm in HI until mid March.

Hay Duck, I'm jelous! I consider HI as my second home. I was stationed there 3 times over the years for a total of 10 years. My first two bikes came from Cycle City. The best ride in the USofA is up or down the Kole-Kole Pass from the naval amunition dump to Scofield Baracs. I like the doward run the best, which is the other way around:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: I had a friend in Hawaii who was also from Atlanta He was a GS750 rider at the time and ran the Suzuki dealership in Kaneohe. His name was Don Wilson.

It's a second home for me too. Spouse Linda works at UH Manoa since 2000. No bike here. No place to park or work on it. I like old bikes and they always need work :-0 Maybe next year. With the new ferry it will be easy to do some riding on Hawaii and Maui.

Oh man, if you make it to Maui take the road to Hana (Hannah???...dunno how to spell it, just know it's cool). 52 miles of ocean-front/cliff-side riding; take you 2 hours...4 if you stop for photos (like the dork tourists we were:whistle: )...you'll never get out of 3rd gear...maybe not second! Can't wait to go back.

Here are the pictures of my partly ported head. The intakes are finished but I must still finish the ehaust side. I plan on taking the head into a speed shop and have it flow tested.

I use media blasting as little as possible. I have a propriatery Chemical cleaning process which removes all the crud and will not harm the Aluminum.
