No tabs or original parts will be harmed in the execution of further modifications.

Create what is in your mind's eye, that's what I did on mine: probably the only Dec 1980 registered '81' 550 in the world, ex kawasaki uk, frame number 000022. first thing was to grind the centre stand lugs out, the helmet lock holder tab, then light bracing and gusseting the frame... then in the interests of keeping this important historic artefact intact ;) I then grafted about 10 different bike parts onto it.

I wouldn't do this to a a double digit Z1, but then market decides the value of these early standard early GPz's... I value it more. Just careful about grinding bits off before you are certain where it is going.

I think I'll leave this one "intact" I've come to appreciate what I have. Besides, I don't have the gear to go nuts on a bike like many of you do. I'll save the insane stuff for something else.

I hoped you would see the light after getting it up and running, I really can't fault the bike in any way.
I'm really smitten with mine.

I've said before I though the 750 had the disadvantages of the bulky 1100 but not really a lot quicker than the 550's...I still feel that, just what a great compromise ! both for shopping or rides down to the South Coast :laugh:

Race Tech may have the fork bushings you need. Measure the old ones and give them a call.

I now have more than 200 miles logged on her for the week. I'm having a great time on my commute, I had some rattles and squeaks for a day or two but they went away, whatever they were has obviously settled.

I've done the ton trying to get away form an idiot in an Aussie GTO. of course I wouldn't have known that if I didn't have the UK cluster. I also was nearly side swiped by a mini van, instead of braking and honking I did the swerve and bird.

The fuel gauge was spot on for the first tank but is now reading sporadically. The float must be leaking, becoming logged again since it hasn't been empty for an extended period.

Starting yesterday I was losing power at speed early on leaving work. Both when we went to payday lunch and on the way home. It regained power after a few minutes at highway speeds (65-80 mph). I'm going to pull the plugs tomorrow have a look and see if there are any other obvious issues.

I bought a Fram filter and a gallon of Rotella 15W-40. I'm going to put in some Mystery Oil as well, my boss swears by it for his Vulcan.

I'll post some updated pics after I've shaken her down a bit more and given her a bath.

If at all possible I definitely would return the Fram filter; they are the absolute lowest quality motorcycle you can buy. If you can't return it, maybe go ahead and use it (but I wouldn't), and in the future buy better quality filters. K&N, Amsoil, WIX, Hi FLO, etc. are all better. Here are just 3 reviews, but there are many more and some are quite brutal! Ed

Well shit.

That's the only filter i could get without going up to the best independent bike shop in town about 15 min away. Oh well. it was only $5. I guess I'll ride up there in the morning and consider it my warm up ride before draining. Hopefully they'll have a Hi flow, Emgo or K&N. If they don't I guess I'll have to order one.
