Low miles are evident with every part of this motor I've examined.
But not every component is reuseable after sitting for years (possibly decades) with the crank left stationary.
I think the clutch fibers can be rejuvenated with a soak in fresh oil, but am not sure about the steel plates. Some have areas of surface rust.
Managed to find a collapsible saw stand that was set at the curb on trash day a couple months ago.
Can't say how long it was there before I drove past, but I'm glad no one beat me to it.
Nothing better for working on this motor in my basement.
Test assembly...waiting for an O-ring, and APE main studs. Bottom should be sealed up this year.
The rubber-backed commercial carpet square under the engine was plucked from a dumpster last week, just in time for this project!
It slides around easily, which provides flexibility for optimal positioning of the engine.

Some see it as trash, others see it as an opportunity.
Some are just too lazy to try.

The rust won't be an issue., but am not sure about the steel plates. Some have areas of surface rust.
As long as the steels aren't warped just give them a clean up.
A quick session in the blast cabinet usually brings them up like new if you have access to one..

Doubtful I will ever need or want more.
Is it harmful to soak the fiber plates in non-ethanol gasoline just long enough to soften and draw out the old grunge embedded within the pores?

I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

Well, now I have four sets in my steels collection, and this is not one of the best.
Doubtful I will ever need or want more.

I use non-clorinated brake cleaner to rinse off the frictions and then resoak them in oil before installing.
