Re: Tariff Charges
Yesterday 12:57Then there is also the fact well hopefully it will be made with better quality. Nothing worse than cheap china junk. My girl bought a pump on amazon for the washing machine because it was leaking. Well guess what the brand new one leaked too. My girl was like well it was only 10 dollars.I was well if i sold you a ten dollor roof and it leaked you would be pissed. Last week I bought an air nosel for my compressor. The kind that clips on the valve stem because i had to blow up a old split rim tire for my kids trailer. I didnt even use it once and it fell apart into 2 pieces.I was so pissed off . I could go on but wont. So sick of cheap china junk. Maybe just maybe the tariffs will cut back on everyone unloading so much junk on us.I suspect what it will mean is significantly higher prices for you guys when you factor in American real estate prices,, labour rates, H&S guidelines, environmental policies, unions etc . There is a reason why so many major western brands manufacture in Asia and the Orient but if you are fortunate enough to be able to pay more for everything then patriotism is a great qualitySWest post=916999 userid=43940I think what did Harley in was AMF, the cone motor and "Hey Art why does it say MADE IN JAPAN on your fork legs?" SHUT UP STEVE". I remember Harley was prevented from coming out with multi valve heads at that time too. They went employee owned and started back up but continued out sourcing parts for their bikes and my GENUINE HARLEY DAVIDSON jacket I paid $450 in 87 made in CHINA. That company has been struggling for decades. INDIAN didn't help ether. They just replaced their CEO because he was making bad decisions and policy. Their market share is drying up due to age and the younger set isn't interested in big heavy motorcycles anymore. From what I've read motorcycle sales are down industry wide. I hate to see it but maybe that will change too.The tariff added to the imported Japanese bikes in the mid-eighties, was in response to H.D whining that the Japanese were flooding the market with cheap bikes. The tariff actually helped the Lincoln Plant as we built a higher percentage of the +700cc bikes.

Maybe MADE IN USA will mean something again.

Re: Tariff Charges
Yesterday 14:31 - Yesterday 14:46We all talk about "cheap Chinese junk" however from things I have read a lot of the issue is driven by consumers. Big brands use manufacturing facilities in that part of the world but negotiate "quality control" standards and are prepared to pay the appropriate "unit price". Whereas in the West companies rely on reputation for quality the Chinese don't - if you want to pay $1 a unit they will churn it out, if you are prepared to pay $5 a unit you will get a significantly better product from the same supplier. I found this in an article when looking for a mini-lathe, my Seig machine is much better than many of the other cheaper Chinese made lathes with regards final machining finishing, accuracy, even down to the shipping crate (nobody seems to have an issue with the screens on their Apple products) Some of the biggest brands in the world don't seem to have reliability issues with components sourced from far Eastern suppliers however if you want to pay "Temu" prices they will happily obligeThen there is also the fact well hopefully it will be made with better quality. An American product Where Is the iPhone Made? (It's Not Just One Country!)
What would an Iphone cost if the components were 100% USA manufactured and assembled ??

Re: Tariff Charges
Yesterday 15:22
I would not be kicking any Chinese manufacturer for cheap junk. I would kick myself. I long ago abandoned purchasing anything from China. It costs me more but I have quality stuff. My toaster is a British hand made Dualit that will last a lifetime and more. My borehole gauge is Mitutoyo (Japanese) rather than some China knockoff. It's up to me to decide what I buy and at what price.
Back on tariffs...I got my own lesson today. For several years I've been writing a book on my family history and discovering long lost relatives. The book is now printed and I am sending copies out to close relatives and people who helped me compile the history. One of my 3rd cousins lives in Detroit and I promised him a copy. But when I went to the PO to mail it they said I had to go to an online site and pay the tariff before they will handle it. WTF???? The book cost me about $100 per copy to print and NOW I have to pay Trump $35 so that my cousin in Detroit can receive his copy. I'm considering adding the USA to China in my personal boycott. Hopefully my cousin has a friend in Windsor where I can mail the book and he can pick it up when he visits Canada again.

Today 19:26 - Today 19:31>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> What jap car was that > I know its off topic but cant think of any jap cars anyone lusting for lol.
Datsun 240z
Oh shoot, I forgot! I had one of those too, briefly. Fun story though, it was beautiful and so fun but I got ripped off because it would run fine and then just sputter and limp once you were miles from home, no shop could figure out the problem. Guy I bought it from said he got the engine from his brother or cousin. I went to sell it, because it was worthless, and the guy who bought it said he used to have one but it would run just fine until you were miles from home, then it would just sputter. and limp Said he gave or sold that engine to his brother or cousin. It worked fine when he test drove it, so he bought the car from me and I was all smiles that the family was reunited with their engine again. I think I lost about $600 on the sale but was glad to be rid of it. Sorry, back to tariffs.
PS-(I generally agree and avoid China stuff but if you do research you can find some good stuff too. Koyo makes high quality bearings in China for example, and I have a wonderful Blueridge acoustic guitar)

Re: Tariff Charges
Today 04:18
So after going online and downloading an app on my phone to get my tariff code I can now send the package. And after all that...the tariff was nil because the book was a gift to a friend.
