Thats what I was thinking,or even clear lexan or something like that to add strength but you could still see through it. B)

Okay Les, everything was pretty straight forward. So before we get started let me say this. I know that you want this to be an easy bolt on kit but.....home mods are still required.
1. Stock brake line is to long.
2. New master cylinder reservoir has to be mounted.
3. Brake light switch. (recommended banjo bolt with built in switch probably easiest solution).
Here are the before and after shots. Keep in mind this is a rough install. The only issue I had was I used the stock washers from my original pegs and had to grind them down so the would not get stuck in the mounting bracket.

I used the same brake line and was fine, but I also had a ZX cylinder mounted in the stock KZ location. Never mentioned reservoir, guess I figured it was a given there. The depth of the pocket for the nut puts the nut flush without using a washer, Just used the serrated nuts.
I'm betting you'll have to lower the shifter from that position. I did, I'll get a pic up this evening of the angle of mine.

The angle of the shifter works great. I found that between the adjustments I can make on the shift linkage and the angle of the linkage lever you can get the shifter arm to sit where ever you need it. Mine is sitting at the same angle as the brake lever.
I used my stock shift lever and cut it down drilled and tapped it to connect the linkage. Eventually I will get the ZX900 linkage lever in there.

freakin sweet man!

kudos for re-using the stock lever kaw-a-holic.
a machined out bung (les :whistle: )drilled and tapped would make re-purposing the cutdown stock lever very nice.
it would require some welding and would kinda spoil the "bolt-on"deal but is well within reach of many kzriders.

i wish i had the dough,i would be all over these.

They look so nice! This winter when the bike gets torn down for polishing and paint I will make them sparkle. Since I am going with green pinstripes and accents I decided to paint the insides of the levers green.

i would opt for a bung(machined out slug) 3/4" od x .500 width(or 1/2" od x .250 width whatever "fits/looks")the best ,with a threaded hole that matched the hardware for the linkage in the center.

then just trim your stock shifter to length (like kaw-a-holic did) and weld the threaded bung on the end for the linkage to bolt to.

voila,custom splined linkage that,

a-fits the splines
b-fits the linkage/bolt
c-fits the look
d-and is nicely finished.

cutting kz or some such out in it while appealing to certain people,seems a little tooo o.c.c. for me.

cutouts and lightening holes are strictly "race sh!t dog" :woohoo: ,which directly translates to these old muscle bikes :evil: .

Les,

Did your distructive testing show anything on the skeletonized set? Also, will do my full mock up with the stock studs on Tuesday and document everything for you. I have O rings and bolts coming in from Fastenal. Also, found some aluminum tubing that I will be using as a sleeve to make the current Gen work with the bolts.

i agree with u as usual Leon.

but but my eye's likes a little bling too. :)

and a proprely shaped hole pattern can look like eye candy , and serve equally as form and function.

i have seen some swiss cheeze clutch covers that look so sweet. :)

there is nothing that looks better than when form and function come together.

someone here has a nice example of a clutch cover but i cant find it now. is it ted ???

No destructive testing as of yet, On the hole pattern, I can do them but for some reason, even when done well, I see a young kid with a hand drill doing what the old hot rodders did to cut weight. I tend to lean towards Aarons ideas again or maybe cutting thru with KZ or Z1
On the stock shifter modded, I did basically the same thing and changed to a newer sport bike setup. More often than not the original shifters don't seem to stay tightly clamped on the shift shaft and when they move around they cause wear. Not saying it will happen to everyone. But, offering a weld on bung with instructions is a nice touch. ;)
