nice looking combination, what year of cop bike front end did you use cop bike triple trees also? B)

The forks, triples, and calipers are from an '86 p bike. Front axle is from a ZG1000 Concours. The spread of the P front end is quite wide, but it is the same as the KZ1300

mjg15 - how did you get the rotors so clean? Did you have them machined? I'm trying to clean up a set now.

I have a set of Z1-R rotors and a set of MKII rotors and I can't find a single difference except for the drilled hole pattern. Any idea why EBC would have different part numbers for the Z1-R vs. the MKII? There is also a third part number for the LTD models....just don't understand what could be different.

MKII,
IIRC, I probably cleaned them with scotchbrite. Sodablasting works well too, but I didn't have one when I did those wheels/rotors last year.

What is the diameter of the Z1R rotors, and what is the spread between them when mounted on the Z1R wheel? I've been tring to figure out what rotor to use to try to put a Z1R wheel on a 550

The diameter measures 11 5/8". I pulled the discs off the wheel earlier today so I can't measure the distance between them. I can tell you that the distance between the back side of the rotors when placed together is 1.8525". I measured the width of the hub to be 2.6855. That would give us a calculated distance of 4.538". Does that sound about right?

Thanks,

The spread sounds close to the 115mm of a 550, but I probably need the 4 bolt 10 1/2" rotors. Maybe they are from a 650 or a CSR1000 ? I've seen a couple pair on ebay, but I've been reluctant to order them because I have enough unusable experimental parts now. At least I now know not to buy Z1R or MKII rotors.

Is your Z1R wheel widened also? If so, did you have do it your self or send it out to someone?

Not sure where exactly the smaller diameter brake discs come from. I haven't had a chance to measure them on my 650 project. I bought a pair supposedly for a 1000 and they are just a bit smaller. I hope to put them on my 650 one day. I'll try to take some measurements and post them.

Yes, front wheel widened to 3.5". I had it done at Kosman Specialties:

Just found out from Jeff at Z1E that the MKII rotor from EBC is 1mm smaller in diameter than the Z1-R rotor. Can't imagine that making any difference?? I'm sure either would work well.

Here's a better picture of the rear rotor. I'd like to keep the same carrier and just bolt on a new rotor. Any idea where I could find something like this? It originally came from Klasmo in Germany and they are out of business.

Wow, this is getting ugly. I've been working with PMFR on possibly getting a Grimeca set up for the front. The centers for the rotors are normally $85 each, but apparently don't fit a stock KZ wheel (I'm still not sure what they do fit). They offered to make a custom center for me....sounded interesting....then I got the price. They want $260 for EACH center plus another $129 for each rotor, plus $123 each for calipers plus $40 each side for caliper brackets. Well, that's a cool $1104 plus shipping for 2 calipers and 2 10" rotors. Ouch!! If I was going to spend that kind of money I'd have Fish make me a sweet set with 330mm discs and 6 piston calipers.

Looks like I'll put my stock MKII rotors on there or just slap on a new set of EBC rotors. EBC rotors would run over $400 though...not sure if it's worth it for just new rotors.
