KZ1000 Brake Upgrade? was created by 79MKII
No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationHello All -

I am looking to change up the front brakes on my MKII and would like to ask for your thoughts and ideas. I am currently running a widened 18" from rim from a Z1-R with stock calipers and Z1-R rotors. I'm just not happy with the look and would love some newer looking rotors. I am considering a set of EBC brake rotors that I think will bolt right on and work with my stock components (please see eBay auction below). They are pricey though, so are there any other rotors available? Custom machining of stock rotors maybe?

I am also looking for a replacement rotor for the rear...one that will fit with the current after-market set up. Any ideas for new front rotors or a replacement for the rear? Thanks

Doesn't look like an actual photo - has 5 mounting holes:

Mark - that would be nice, but too much of a project for me right now. I want to do a full suspension swap on my next project bike. Just want to ride this one for a while with some minor tinkering.

Leon...do you know anyone that can make adapters for some newer calipers? The only guy I know of will only sell the whole package ($1000 and up). I can score some used calipers on eBay easily.

Another complication...I just realized that EBC lists different front brake rotors for the Z1-R and the MKII. I always thought they were dimensionally the same?? Now I'm not sure which rotors I need?

there is a member here that goes by "the fish" on here. he was building and selling conversion kits.i don't know if he could just sell you some brackets or what.

here are a couple pics from his threads.

if you could make some mockup brackets out of cardboard i could whittle you some brackets out on the mill.they don't look to difficult to build.

Thanks Leon. Fish is who I talked to. His kits start at $1000. He's not willing to sell individual components because he wants to be sure that everything works well together. I like his stuff but just can't spend that much cash right now.

If I can come up with a way to mock up a bracket I'll let you know. Thanks!

I was also considering gremica rotors, brackets and calipers...they sell caliper adapters that work well. I just can't get them to answer my question. Do they sell a disc that bolts directly onto a factory kz wheel? Never got a reply from them.

I have a set of 91 gsxr1100 4 piston calipers I was getting ready to ebay cheap.

They came with a master cylinder/lines and I didn't need the calipers.

I'll bring them home tonight and see how they line up to the stock forks I have "in stock".

Those look real nice! I have to find something that will bolt up to my Z1-R wheel though...I have way too much money in it at this point.

How did you paint the centers? Did you just mask it off or is there another trick?

No tricks, just lots of masking. Paint is base/clear catalyzed urethane. I have a Z1R wheel kicking around that I'm waiting to use on something. The 1300 wheel is tubeless. I can't wait to get the rest of the bike done so that I can try the brakes out.
