EXCELLENT tip OMR, and timely! I was just looking at the best place to put the battery, and I was thinking I was going to need a gel battery. Then I thought it would be nice to have a little larger capacity, but I hadn't researched sizes yet.

Josh, don't worry about hijacking my thread, its all relevant. ;) I think that I'm going to use a pyramid cross brace for the shock mount. That way I get the strength of the 3 dimensional X, and a place to bolt my shock all in one. I also wanted to make my subframe removable, so a main frame connection for the shock works better for me than a subframe connection. Thanks for the inspiration guys, lets see where this leads.... Here are the pics of the pod filters. I have about one inch of clearance to any part of the frame.

Between the older kids and the baby, I'm lucky to get 5 minutes in the garage! So, over the course of the last two weeks I've managed to put together 1/2 of the top shock mount. Here are the brackets tacked onto the 1" cross tube-

The corner tubes are 7/8", and were tricky little buggers to fit up. I must have made 8 of them before I got them the right size and to fit. With the corner tubes mating up with the frame tubes droping away and out, it was a complex angle to attempt to duplicate. Add to that the fact that my frame is asymetrical, and I was pushing the envelope of my fabrication abilities.

So with the shock mount sitting in place, it looks something like this-

Now, the top shot looks off, but I didn't take the pic centered. But more than that, the brace doesn't look centered because its not! The shock is centered in the swingarm, and the top of the shock is centered within the frame, but with the asymetrical frame, it looks a little off. All my fitment was done with a line laser to help insure congruity.

Now, I did say this was 1/2 of the top shock mount. Once I have the main mount completed (cap the ends of the tube, clean it up a bit) and tacked to the frame, I will make two diaganal braces from the center of the shock mount and up to the top tubes at the top subframe connection.

Good work Adam. Do you have a plan on where you are mounting that remote nitrogen reservoir? That one has me stumped at the moment.

hmmm....that looks familiar ;-)

nice work bud....I think you will find that you wont need to add the extra tubes...once this is all welded it will be quite ridgid....but....in the interest of making it BOMB proof... a small 90 degree gusset(made out of 1/8th plate) that sits under or over (or both) ....the short angled tubes will be lots....and will allow more room for the battery box ect.
just my .02

Yes Ben, it should look familiar! I agonized over how to make the top mount. It was too far away from the main tubes to use a simple cross brace, and I didn't want to brace off the subframe. Then I remembered what you did with Pens, and I pirated the idea. I hope you don't mind bud ;) I was angling toward the cross bracing to triangulate the rear engine hoop a bit, and to support that mount. There would be alot of stress on that bottom weld, and I wanted to help resist that vertical component of compression.
