Ditto what (Zed Said), poetic if you say it fast, ha. In addition, those Z900 and Z1000 26's had subtle differences. Might make sure those choke lifters on the choke rod are NOT impeding full bottoming of plungers. The 900 had different lifters then the 1000. The 900 are a double tang version and can get bent.

I thought your model came with CV carbs as original?
I've seen many people try to get big bore 650's out to 750 to run right on vm28's and none have managed successfully. All have eventually reverted back to 24's with stock 650 jetting (15 pilot & 102.5mains) and immediately solved all the issues.

It's not straight forward to swop from CV carbs (with butterfly's) to vm carbs with slides.
You can do the calcs for air flow for the two types mechanism used to regulate airflow.
CV carbs at say 15% open have two arched openings top and bottom of the butterfly/throat for air to flow.
VM carbs at 15% open have one segment at the bottom of the slide/throat open for air flow.
If the throat diameters of each carb style were the same then the air flow difference is huge between the two.

20 Jul 2025 14:45 - 20 Jul 2025 14:52Why have you got bigger mains in 2 and 3 ???I appreciate it.. I have vm28ss carb. I will try at 2 turns out. 1 and 4 cylinders are 102.5 main and 2-3 105 main!! All have 15 pilot jet
Don't go falling for that "centre cylinders needing bigger mains for cooling" cobblers.
You need the exact same jetting in all the carbs.
You mentioned in your private email that 2 and 3 are the darkest and the larger mains on those isn't helping so put them the same as 1 and 2..
The only reason some bikes have bigger ( or smaller ) mains in the middle cylinders is to compensate for the stock airbox design which in some cases delivers slightly differing high rpm flow rates to the outer and inner cylinders which then need different mains to correct the A/F ratio.
Once the airbox is removed on those machines all the carbs would need the same jetting.

What is the voltage at the coils? Are you running a WG coil mod?
On one of my 650's I had 10V to coils before the coil mod, did my best to remove corrosion from bullet terminals with vinegar soak and brushing then rinse with baking soda solution.
Those old wire harnesses over the years can pick up a lot of corrosion at the bullet terminals from sitting outside. On some I have stripped the wires back to expose black copper for 6-7". The main issue for the wiring on these has mostly been thru the handlebar kill switch, a very bad design flaw!

I don’t know voltage. They are Oem coils!! If I look at the dyno curve. It looks good to have bad fire , what do you think ?!
