Wrench! That's one sexy looking petcock! Sure looks nearly identical to the stock one, so I'm sure she'll slap right in :) On my end, this might actually solve my slightly rich issue on the one cylinder! I just might have to be ordering one up this week...

Keep up the progress!

I got the new Suzi petcock installed on the tank today:

It required the inside vacuum port be rotated 90 degrees to the downward position as it interfered with the frame during installation (although, once in position, it wouldn't be in contact with the frame; you just couldn't remove the tank. LOL).
Also, I rerouted my fuel line to avoid kinking it as the fuel port sticks straight backward and you can see in the pic how close it is to the frame and even the side cover panel.
I still haven't yet fired-up the engine (but I'm ->this close<- now) so I cannot report on the petcock's functionality but it does have Prime and Reserve positions in addition to the normal on position just like the original Kawasaki petcock so I don't expect any drama.

Dang wrench I forgot that I had to rotate the vac plate too but anyway like you said was easy enough to do.... thanks for the tip Pete too on the filter but to be honest the way we did it works great.

That sucks. If were me, I'd take out the nipple and drill the other side. I'd tap and plug the original hole. How long is the fuel line this way?

Wrench- could you take a farther away shot on the tap side of the tank so I could see how you routed the line in?

Yes, Nhanc3d it is a great solution and it does look good - smaller "face" on the unit is cleaner but same same operationally.
So Thank you for the suggestion.
I have the tank off now while I attempting her first engine run but I can tell you this - that fuel line could probably be bent down and inward directly from the petcock without kinking the fuel line. I was thinking of putting a fuel filter directly after the petcock as my tank was super rusty inside. I wanted easy access to both the line and filter for checking. I dunno how many of you have tried to peek down at the carb space between the petcock and fuel rail but it's anything but easy access. But lifting the seat and having sight and access... 'Natch!

Thus, the idea to run the fuel line straight back, under the seat and curved around, following the radius of the air breather lid and back through the frame/plastic plate (I dunno what that small plastic plate is for? To hold air box down in place?).

I'll take more pictures Devin, when I get so far as running engine off the tank instead of on the bottle.

Steve. Is there a problem with having a longer fuel hose between the tank and engine? I mean, for me, it's about easy access for checking the filter and replacing it without struggling in a confined, hard to see, space but I didn't guess that would introduce problems by being too long...

Personally I think this works out perfect... I have a 2 inch piece coming off the carbs then the filter and curve a 8 or 9 inch piece around and down into the filter..... nice and neat gentle angle down for good flow, kink free and very easy to get too.

I don't think it would be a problem. I was thinking out loud. Thought you have the nipple from the old one you could use to adapt it to the other side. If you like it, that's all that matters. B)

Hey guys . . . haven't posted much, but I've been lurking for a while! ;) There is a ton of great information on this forum!

My bike is a 1978 KZ 650 SR that seems to have developed a leak in the "sandwich" portion of the petcock . . . between the plastic spacer and the diaphragm . . . ? I bought the rebuild kit shown on Z1 (200-2014). But when I disassembled my petcock I didn't see any apparent damage to the diaphragm and discovered it is the "top-hat" style.

My notes from the previous owner indicate he changed the petcock, so I'm assuming he replaced with an older one. Just for general information, when did Kawasaki stop using the top hat style and change to the newer design?

So just to be clear . . . if I have the "top hat" style of diaphragm, then ordering the newer style diaphragm assembly will do me no good, as it will not work with my petcock?

And if that is indeed the case, could someone please point me toward the correct part number for the Suzuki petcock mentioned in this thread? Or some way to search for it? All I could glean from the pics was "FPC-308" which came up empty for me on Z1.

Or would a dab of some kind of gasket maker or sealer be enough to fix my leak and I could use my original parts?

Thanks in advance for any and all help!!

Ron

That bolt spacing looks to be about 45 mm? Looks a lot like the one on my ZN1300. I've been looking for a replacement tap screen without any success - maybe replacing the entire tap is a better option?
