Mikuni VM 33 Carbs

Can you raise the slides and secure them in an open position, and make needle access easier?
I use a long individual allen wrench under a nut above the slide that rests on the carb top.

Would a set of Flat Slides fit and potentially perform better than the VM33's on your motor? They sure have made a difference for my engine, considering it had BS34's before. There really is no comparison.
