I wanted to ride it a few times to make sure I wasn't jumping the gun but the problem seems fixed! moving the needle positions from 4 to 3 seemed to be the final step in ironing out the tuning. I'm glad I took the long way around on this as I was able to dial in the valves, electrical system and give the carbs a few good cleanings. Thank you again to everyone who helped me with this; this forum is an invaluable resource!
