vm33

Hello all. I havnt been on the forum for a while, work has kept me busy. I bought a set of vm33s off eBay about 3 months ago and can't seem to figure them out. They were ultrasonically cleaned and reassembled by the seller. I put them on and they were real lean. 17.5 pilot and 122.5 main. 3rd clip on needles. I tried upping the main a touch and they were real rich all of the sudden. I kept messing with them and found they were leaking out of the bore. So much so I could smell gas in my oil. I pulled them and checked float height they were set at 23mm. I put gas to them and they leaked out bore again. I set the floats to 25mm. Seemed to help. Needles and seats are sealing when I turn carbs upside down and blow in fuel line. Floats have no fluid in them. I have them set at 20 pilots and 127.5 mains. Haven't touched clips. Bike is way rich. Black smoke and plugs fouling but when I rev it flames come out pipe. That would be lean, right? What's going on? I can put bs34s back on and it runs like a top. They are set at 40 pilots and 130 mains. I'm confused and can't get back in touch w seller

I didn't mean to double post this topic. Can anyone help me erase the other one?

What bike are you putting them on? Check the slides. 1.5 or 2.0? I have the 2.0 and have to run a 65 pilot with a 125 main on my 1015 Z1. The chart says for Kawasaki it's 1.5 slide cutaway with 17.5 pilot and 125 main. They don't make them anymore so I'm stuck with what I got. Honda and Suzuki are 2.0,

Its an 82 kz1000. Gpz1100 cams dyna coils and kerker header w a cut down yoshi can. I went back to stock air box with a k&n. Not sure how to check slides. I'm new to the vm's. I've gotten real familiar with the bs34s. The seller said he had the slides cut but I'm not sure exactly what that means

On the bottom of the slide is a stamp. If they're cut, it may not matter. Still like to know what it says. Maybe we can figure it out.

You waited too long. The VM 33's are obsolete. Some parts are available but some aren't. You might file a not as described claim against the seller. I understand eBay has changed it's return policy to 180 days nor 90. I suspect it depends on if the seller is favored or not.
In my case, I have to ether buy some 1.5 slides for a different style 33 carb, drill and tap them to fit my linkage or cut my 2.0's to 1.5's. That's why I asked what you numbers were. In the off chance the 34 slides might work but I have to measure them and ask Mike at jetsrus. They're not cheap.

Everything is there and seems to be operable but I can't get them to stop running gas out the bore. I clear tube tested them and gas level was high so I set them to 3mm below base of carb. Not gasket surface. I think that's right. Put them on bike and connected gas line. Left petcock on PRI for about 20 min and gas was running out on the floor. When I turn carbs upside down with bowls empty and blow in gas line no air goes through seats. I have two gas inlets on the carbs so I tied them together. Both vents are clear. I don't get it

It could be something simple like your float needle getting stuck.
I have a 1980 Kawasaki KZ750 Ltd. I bought new. I recently managed to get it out of my garage after 28 years and put it on the road again (2010). I feel like a kid all over again. Since I have acquired 3 78 KZ1000 Ltd, 1 1981 KZ1000 Ltd, and another 1980 KZ750 Ltd. Love the LTD's.

All four of them?! They have been doing this for a while and I put them on a bucket w a temporary tank and all four were running out. Needles and seats look good and I thought for sure I had fixed it when I set them by the clear tube. I'm pulling them back off now and gonna try on the bucket again. I'm going to clear tube test them again too. Could it have something to do with the two fuel inlets?

You have a leaking float seat and valve. Take a Q-tip, dip the Q-tip into brasso or other type of mild polisher then insert the tip into the float seat and polish it up. Also polish the float valve. Set the float level by clear tube method ignore the float height. The float valve should not allow gas to leak by even if it sat overnight. If it leaks then you have a float valve problem.
