Pull ONE diaphragm cover and pull out the spring than slide out the diaphragm with the needle. Very slowly push up on the needle to slide it out of the plunger. As you pull the parts out. Diligently write down the exact order that all the different washers and spacers are in. Take a picture of the needle and post it. If there are any #s on the top of the needle than post that also. There is a small hole in the bottom of the plunger just to the front of the hole from which you pulled the needle. Measure the size of that hole exactly to with in .002" and post that #. Than we can start to help you in a reasonable fashion.

Wondering if pods were fitted before or after the carb work. And whether retro-fitting the oem airbox might reduce or eliminate the mid-range flat spot.

Some carbs are more difficult than others to perfect tuning throughout the range using pods.

Am thinking (but could be wrong) that the bike when new (with original carb setup, jet needle, needle jet, taper, clip, airbox, slide, etc.), would not have suffered from the mid-range flat spot.

Good Luck! :)

The carbs were jetted for the pods and the pipe. It had the pods when I bought it so I dont have the air box. By the way it ran pretty well before I had the carb work done no flat spots. It has more power now just with the flat spot.

Otakar
I will check all that stuff friday and get back to you.

Thanks for your help guys.

First I not trying to bash WG.
I paid him to rebuild and jet the carbs for pods and the pipe. As far as what helps for the flat spot I just throttle through it, its not like it dosnt pull at all it just really comes on at 7000.

I was understanding that you were wide open throttle and were hitting a flat spot at 7k RPM? If throttle is wide open, the slides should be all the way up and the main jets should be supplying nearly all the mix.

+1 From what I have read, some are virtually impossible to get to run right across the full band with pods.

On mine, the diaphragm is usually stuck around the edge so you have to very carefully "peel" it away from the edge to free it. I think I may have torn one once trying to use the piston to force the diaphragm up to pull free, so that's not the way to go.

Unless someone glued the diaphragm, It should not be stuck. Usually they fall right out. If you tear a diaphragm, you either have to replace it or I have fixed them with a piece of silk and rubber cement. Mine run perfectly threw the entire band with pods and a Kerker. I have no hesitation anywhere. Obviously we are speaking of first or second gear. You will always have some hesitation in mid range in high gears.

Yeah, I got a new set of slides with good diaphragms. Mine do tend to stick around the rim after they have been on a while, they are BS-38's maybe the BS-34's don't.

The needle # is 5fl51 or the 1 could be a 7.

Only one clip slot with no washers.

The hole in the bottom of the slide is .085 on an inch I think
