Put a new ring in a cylinder using a piston to make it square then measure the gap. It should be in spec.

Just did a new one. About 0.38mm/0.015in
Old one. About 0.58mm/0.023in
20mm difference.
Spec is 0.20-0.40mm. New one is there on gap.
Thin for spec though at 0.97 top and 1.18 bottom.
Right at low spec.
How does Steve grind rings?

I guess you could use a small file but I would use this in my cordless. It can be had at a hardware store for $5. Never had to do it with Wiseco rings.

Lapping valves. Seats are cleaning up better than I expected. Slow work, but progress.

That looks like it was dry blasted. When I do mine I aqua blast them.

I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

Looks awesome. What kind of vapor blasting rig do you have? What kind of media do you run in it?
Got a used harbor freight cabinet and fine black media in it. Have a small pot with baking soda I'm using to clean up the head with.

Aqua blasting does leave it shinier. Using an electric pressure washer with Angela&Alex Pressure Washer Sandblasting Kit, with 70-140 glass bead media.
Going to take lots of tape to seal the head to keep grit out.

Looks like silicon. Check your oil pump screen.

Screen is spotless.
Red chips are really hard and brittle.
Guess it could be, but this is the first sight of anything not black in the entire tear down.
