Well it is time to address the nagging oil leak and cracked/holed case. Here is what I am dealing with:

So while I am at it (famous last words) I was going to pull the head, replace the valve stem seals, check the valves and possibly do the rings. Anything else I should plan on doing while I have it apart? It has 44K on it and the compression was good but not great.

Your photo has me baffled. What are we looking at there?

That looks like a good Winter-time project to me...

But then again, you have another bike to play with. :cheer:

It's the bottom of the case on the shifter side. It drips pretty bad and has to be fixed.

True dat!
I love riding the Cop bike but in the heat of summer I prefer a bike without a WS. I just got the café bike running really well so I am looking forward to putting a few miles on that. It's no highway cruiser though...
Hopefully I'll get the cop bike back together in time for the ride to Barber.

You do realize that is a case replacement injury, right?

I realize that is a possibility. I won't know how bad it is until I get that JB weld off. I've been riding it like that for the last year or so and besides the leak it runs very well.

A good welder may be able to fab a fix. A new case would be another option too of course.

That area holds the crankshaft and there is a lot of energy and movement that goes through there. It would be cheaper and whole lot easier to get a matched set of used cases and use them. Another thing to consider is how was that hole created,, threw a rod, foreign object introduced, etc.. It has already been exposed to a violent action so there might be other cracks or problems in the area.

Yeah there are a few out there on eBay for around $150. As soon as I get it out and the JB weld removed I can see what I am dealing with.

Got the head off. About what I expected.

I'm either going to take to my regular machinist or ship off to larry. What am I looking at for just a basic valve job?

Here are the jugs.
There seems to be a little bit of corrosion on the piston wall. Other than that the bores look good with a slight ridge.

Not sure yet if I am going to go with a Wiseco kit or just do a re-ring. Depends on what the measurements tell me...
Suggestions?
