No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationNo eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configuration:( Total loss IMO

If this guy could be convinced to crate and ship it, you'd be way ahead by replacing the whole engine...very nice seller, BTW

and another!

There appears to be a healthy replacement supply available. Good luck. :)

Ouch.... I'd never try to rebuild that one if a replacement was only 50% more money.
That's pretty ugly and all kinds of crap went into the rest of the engine, probably the transmission too.
Please don't beat your head against a wall... take advice from the many "hands on" and or experienced mechanics here... swap this one out with a known good motor and ride ride ride....

That thing is done. Call this place and see if they have an engine:

www.ricepaddy.com

It's a local (to me) Japanese motorcycle scrap yard and repair shop. They ship anywhere and they have a decent inventory of used KZ parts for all models. The guys that work there personally own KZ's and know a lot about them.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationI was really hoping that I could get it repaired . now I'm stuck at a debate if the 100 dollar engine on eBay is worth it so I can go ahead and talk to seller. I hope it's not to much for shipping ...

A hundred dollars is cheaper than a good set of gaskets would set you back.
It's a no brainer if you can find one locally within 1 to 2 hundred miles.

I don't know about that one. The owner may have f'ed the motor. He certainly didn't know what he was doing if he routed crank case vent directly to the intake manifolds as pictured.

It's as if his reasoning was to randomly hook shit up and see what happens. 1 and 4 may be toast.

I saw that. $100 and all the parts you need. I'll bet he couldn't get it running that way so he's parting it out. The price tells me he's mad at it. :woohoo:

Well there's a 3rd line on the tee from the vent...wonder where that line led to? Atmosphere?

God only knows. This guy didn't know what he was doing. Nice fittings though.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationHi mate (and all the other KZ riders in the forum),

I'm the lad on ebay selling the KZ550 engine

I'm not mechanic thank goodness, after I read your comments on the crankcase tubes connected to the manifolds! Otherwise I'd be a crap mechanic, I reckon? :(

Anyway, for honesty's sake, let me clarify a few points:

1) First and foremost, I based my company and actions in logic and honesty "to a fault" as I have been defined by a witness in my fight for placement of my second child;

2) Based on 1, I won't go around lying to anyone about the parts or items I sell...What would be the point anyway? Earning a few bucks but screwing some other person up???

3) As I stated above, I'm not mechanic, even though I had many motorcycles for the last 40 years, including a few Z650s (since I was 15 y..o. indeed): Most of my self taught mechanic knowledge regards BMW K75 and K100, for all the other bikes is limited to basics.

4) Indeed, based on the comments about the crankcase tubes, I'm already a) researching on line the kawasaki.com and other website for parts diagrams; b) will check straigh away the connections in other Kawa KZ550 Ltd I bought for the store three days ago and haven't had the time to fully dismantle yet; c) will go and pay a visit to the mecfhanic who sold me the bike from where I took the engine for sale, to ask about those conections; d) If you guys are right about the connections (and logic tells me you are and I should've look better) especially because, as I said loud and clear in my add, the motorcycle was taken to a shop NOT running (no spark and a faulty carburettor--- by the way, I bought that bike without carburettors). e) If indeed there's a risk the engine is faulty or damaged due to the connection crankcase-manifolds, I will take it immediately off ebay and my online shop, and will fully dismantle it to look for damages.

5) Finally, the $100 price, is based on many personal aspects, that I feel I'd reveal at least partially so you can know where I come from: I'm an Italian bloke (who lived in the UK for many years as you can guess for some of the terms I use). Had my motorcycle parts business (new and used, specialised in BMW Ks,, Ducati and the four big Japanese manufacturers) back in Italy until May 2012...Unfortunately, a serious family illness happened and I was forced to accept to moved to the US. I left everything behind and started here from scrap: literally. Slowly I developped my business again, still far from the levels I achieved back home, but I can't complain). Due to all those factors, I started working from my parking slot below my apartment, keeping the parts in a storage unit in the basement. Only last year
(keep in mind I lived on my savings for a year before getting my green card, whilst paying for a legal battle to have 50% placement of my child), I managed to afford a very small storage unit; now the legal battle is won and achieved, even though I'm still in debt, I can afford a bigger storage unit...

So, I'm not "mad at the motor", :P ...I only asking 100 bucks because I never heard it running and because shipping it's terribly expensive in the USA and varies a lot according to the area of the country where it goes...It's much more expensive that shipping in the EU! And I don't even have enough space to keep all the motors I have! You won't believe how many motors in good working order I sold as scrap metal because I couldn't store them..

That's a bit of my story, lads and gals...Never my intention to con anyone...

Cheers,

Toni (male Toni). AKA "thedoctor.61"

$100 is a good price for parts. In this case the PO ruined his engine and by looking at yours, I suspect he would have all the parts he needs. As for your mechanical abilities, all I can say is, everyone makes mistakes and can expect a little ribbing for it now and then.
I respect the fact you took the time to join and stand up for yourself though I don't think it was necessary. It's being sold for parts for god's sake. I'd like to find one like that for my bike. B)
BTW, Welcome
Steve
