So I am preparing myself for this valve adjustment.

front from left to right 1-4
was .002 .004 .002 less than .002

Rear from left to right 1-4
was .003 .004 .004 .004

The book calls for from .002 to .005

so i was planning on adjusting front #1, 3, and 4

where should i set them at?
What do you think?

dave,
just remember .002-.005 is inches if using metric feelers its gonna be .05 to .10......obviously youre going the inch route...just wanted you to be aware....

if it were me ,i would use metric feelers as the shims are going to have metric measuremnts on them and the math is gonna be alot easier....but thats just me....B)

so should i adjust all the ones that are .002 or less?
do you have a recomendation as to what to set them at?

Any tips on actually adjusting them?

Im still not sure i dd them exactly right.

You said turn the crank till they were 180 degrees away from the buckets which i assum is the valves....so i measure when the cames point away from valves... is that right?

The reason i ask is because the book says to line up the marks on the came chain sproket measure two than turn one complete resolution and line up marks again and measure the other two. but when i did this there was not always two pointing away....or it was not exact.

I think that's correct

I had not heard that before. I always point the cam directly away from the valve. Also, keep turning in the normal direction of rotation and don't reverse direction as that will take the tension off the cam chain and can let the camshaft shift in the journals. On mine, it can slightly affect clearance readings.

just for your info one shim size roughly the same as.002" go down one size on the ones that are reading .002" and it should be just about perfect.
