I went with the Neotec because of its having the features I wanted. The RF 1200 had everything except for the drop down sun shield.
The Neotech really doesn't feel like a modular. Well worth the extra cost as compared to moderately priced helmets for the comfort it offers alone -- light weight, quiet and good fit.

And that is all that really matters, the perceived value and comfort to each rider. If it is not comfortable and deemed "worthy" or a "Good value" then it doest matter what the helmet brand or type or anything else is, it won't be worn and renders it a moot point. Above all else most important is comfortable and that you the rider like it, otherwise you won't wear it regardless and no point in even owning it lol.

When I replace my current lid I am hoping there will be a SNELL rated modular since I really do like the idea and features of them, but overall safety and SNELL certification matters more for me personally than neat features. Just hope they get some SNELL rated ones soon :)

Just purchased a new HJC IS-MAX II modular lid. Never even tried on a modular lid before but goddamn its sweet to get them on and off compared to a full face. I'm with everyone on this thread who speak of fit and comfort. If it's DOT or better then it's going to do a decent job keeping your melon in one piece in moderate impacts. You hit a curb at 40 MPH head first and your probably dead regardless of what you're wearing.

Speaking of fit. The HJC has the flip down internal smoke visor which iI'm sure is going to be a huge joy when you round a curve and suddenly the sun wants to blind you. However I tried on a Bell and a Nolan with the same type flip down smoke visor and both of them squished the end of my nose. Imagine how comfy that would be.

So, I have a huge noggin and apparently a really long nose too.

Bowman wrote: Once upon a time I was riding from Calgary to Edmonton on highway 2. It was raining pretty good so I was down to about 50 MPH. Some guy on a CB750 passed me going about 60. Right after he passed me his rear wheel started doing the horizontal mambo and he dumped it. Luckily I didn't run over him or his bike. He tumbled a bit as he came off of it and his head smacked the pavement 4 or 5 times before he came to rest under an overpass (which I thought was considerate on account of the rain).

I stopped to see if he was dead (and he was in my lane by now). He got up slowly, we had a cigarette, straightened out some bits and went on our way. His helmet looked like shit but his head was intact. I don't ride without a helmet.

Agreed with many others that as long as it's got a sticker on it the main thing is fit. I have a massive noggin and have a hell of a time finding something that doesn't hurt.

FWIW i'm going through this same exact problem right now. HJC makes helmets up to 5xl(up to 8 5/8 hat size head measurement i beleive) unfortunately i have high and big cheek bones so a full face just didnt work, i did end up getting a 5xl german styled half helmet that fits me pretty well.

Very happy with my Gmax. Water runs off the sides of the face shield, parts are available, even has a brake light built in though I didn't order one. I will eventually. Slip down sun shade and has a optional chin guard to make it full face. (Don't have) Mine is the blue one.

I rock a matte black bell modular with built in sunglasses and a led light in the back that can stay red or flash red. I like modular you can open the front at long stops and quickly pull down to protect yourself again. I use the light in the back of the helmet at night just because no one sees bikes periods anything to help with my safety im down for.

Got the jaw attachment (chin guard) it goes on and off easily. There are two covers, one for the nose and the other covers the throat area. I took the nose cover off, too stuffy. It's like a full face now. We'll see how warm it is on the next trip to the high desert.
