So i came out of class tonight to discover my 650 burnt to a crisp. cops said eyewitnesses saw a man in a hoody was crouching next to the tipped over bike and then later the bike was in flames. They said the arson department will be looking at it. im not holding out for them even though they were sympathetic... Ill get some better pics of it tomorrow, but the firedamage doesn't seem to be all that bad, most plastic and rubber is toast, but the chrome looks pretty good still. I have been thinking about selling this bike but now i have no clue what i could get for it, any thoughts? I don't have the time or money to fix it right now, so should i part it out out or try to sell it whole?

+1 on that. Schools, colleges especially have extreamly good camera coverage these days. More so than your average public spaces. Helps detter sexual assult and teft and all the other sort of stuff that takes place on campus. Good chance by looking at the different cameras they may be able to track perpetrato back to his or her vehicle.

...... .... Man that is a tragedy! If I had a vote I would say that SOB should be drawn and quartered! sure sorry to see that! If I were you I might take some time and sell the parts. I don't think you could get much more than a couple hundred for the bike as a whole. I think people would be very hesitant with fire damage. Although it may just be worth holding on to, putting in storage or something. It will take you a long time and a bit of effort to make anything from parts . If you do decide to sell parts I would put that motor up as a whole and sell it as a running motor ~250-300 range. Best of luck catching that SOB!

Chances are it's someone you know or came into contact with recently. I see lowlifes hovering around my bike all the time. At my daughter's they come out of the desert on a dirt road that isn't used and no reason for them to be there. Meth Heads. If they can't steal it, they will make sure you can't have it ether. I'd hold on to it, find one with a blown motor or maybe a failed bobber and put it back together just to show them "You can't keep a good man down." I've always wanted a bike alarm, this is a good reason to get one.
Good luck

That is terrible. Hope they find out who did it and punish them and that they are collectable.

In this state there is a restitution law making the purp. pay the victim for the damages. Hopefully you have something like that where you are. PLS keep us up to date as to what happens. IMO this guy needs a visit from "Guedo" one dark and lonely night.
I know how you must feel.

Damn, that sucks.
I've had people mess with my bike plenty. I've had it knocked over overnight. I've had people turn my pursuit lights on and drain the battery. Crackheads break off the spark plugs to make crack pipes out of the ceramic insulators. I've had dog shit smeared on my seat. I've had helmets stolen. I even had someone pick and steal my helmet lock, but leave the helmet!
But this is taking it too far... I've got to assume they were just trying to steal something (recently in my area they're now stealing fuel and vacuum hoses, perhaps to make bongs?) and the fire was an unintended consequence.
Assuming you get a decent payout from your insurance, then I wouldn't sweat too much about making money off the sale, just get it in the hands of someone who has the time and inclination to save what can be saved. If you let the insurance company keep it, they'll just crush it.
