The rear brake had been getting gradually less effective the last couple of seasons, but not enough for me to notice until, the other day, I tried to lock up the rear while going slow, and it wouldn't grab.
I bled the rear completely and re-greased the slides with sil-glide. But it was not much different. Everything looked clean and dry, but I took a white rag to the disk and it came back black.
So I pulled the caliper again, and wiped down the disk with a rag and brake cleaner. Then I took the pads off (much material left) and hosed and scrubbed them good with brake cleaner.
What a difference! Now that rear grabs hard... no squeaks, great feel and control.
... Just a heads up on how much difference it can make.
I think the oil came from the 20 year old shocks which are on their way to being replaced.

Hello friends,
First of all, and it seems great on this forum, secondly, put 380 miles on my newly acquired 2010 F4. Finally, able to purchase my dream bike, it is everything I had hoped.
Thanks a lot
Anthony

Adjusted the chain and contemplated fixing the oil leak or just put oil in it and ride it. I chose the latter. I'll fix the leak when I rebuild. Now I just need to decide on whether or not I'm going to have it resleeved and the cases bored and reuse my 1105 pistons, have it resleeved and drop down to a 1075 or go all in and make it an 1197. Decisions, decisions.

Over the past three evenings I braved the heat and spent time in the garage. On Monday removed the old bodywork from the 650B as the newly painted pieces are here and washed it. Bought a rear luggage rack to protect the paint from the tail bag I have (should be here tomorrow).
On Tuesday I took the rear wheel off to inspect the brake pads (all good) and found I was missing a spacer in drive hub. Why I didn't look for a replacement for the 2 washers and three inner bearing races acting as spacers I'll never know. An axle with the spacer will be here any day.
Yesterday I put the badges on the sidecovers and the tank. I found the petcock for the tank I'd bought a few years ago (procrastination is like Christmas!). I freshened up the chrome with NEVR DULL and also the aluminum polished areas with Mothers polish.
Next plan is to install the rack and spacer when they get here and the new body work and take some pictures. Hopefully in a week it will be back together.

Replaced the exhaust gaskets, I had a broken header stud that I finally got out and neglected to replace the gasket on that cylinder, so of course it started tapping again after about 50 miles and got progressively worse, down on power, rough idle, etc.
My baby runs great now, just in time to go cruise with all the new college students in town (Iowa City, home of the Hawkeyes!). I may be getting older, but I still love me some freshmen sorority girls walking down the streets in packs this first weekend they're all in town, lol. Easy pickings once they hit the bars later tonight, mwaaahhhahahaha! 'I get older, they stay the same age.'
