Les
I feel your pain Les got the stuff to finish my tail light and new license plate mount half tempted to make it out of rubber so it just bends the plate up and quits breaking stuff!!
Mine does OK til 2 up and not slowing enough for the railroad tracks

Yeah two of them broke when I pulled the cover off, I'm all "No wonder it was acting weird". All 3 of the leads had been repaired with a simple butt-joint splice, cheapo plastic pinch splice without even a heat-shrink tube to protect them. Easy fix, but it could have been disastrous as I'm tooling around the country.
Repair in progress: Right being the finished repair, middle prepped and left what I found under that cover.
This is in addition to doing a valve clearance check, new valve cover gaskets, new rear brake pads, new speedo cable, new inline fuel filter, and some attention paid to apparently factory original '83 vintage spark plug cables and boots (to be replaced soon). Oil/filter change, brake fluid flush, and new plug wires/plugs are all lined up for later this week.
Sadly, the oil leak is coming from that left-side front 'cover' where the leads went, and my head gaskets are also pushing oil out the front of the block (dangit) and I've still got to get a broken exhaust stud (outside #4 stud) out so I can stop the ticking, BUT with the wires repaired it starts up much easier and there's less dimming of the headlight when I apply the brakes.
I love this bike, and I wish I had a reasonably equipped garage to do a full teardown, because every thing I pull off reveals more I need to do to my daily, cross-country rider. Tomorrow I've got to get up early to beat the heat (was 95 here today) and get to my buddy's shop before he goes on vacay to get that stud removed. But, hey, I've got new tires to break in, and some twisty backroads I haven't been down in about 4 years to go see an old friend - that's why I love this bike.

Just curious, what's with the rear swingarm tubing? Is that to brace it up or are you up to something else? The way it drops down in front of the rear wheel is sorta peculiar if there isn't some other reason. Look pretty sweet though!

...it's called gusseting, it's for strength, reinforcement, to help stop those nasty high speed wiggles.
...here's another example.

KraZyRider, another swing arm question for ya. Why the off set shock mount? Is that just something temporary to raise the mount for mock up purposes? It looks like it would bind the movement of the swing arm going through the natural arc.

...nothing is bolted up yet, it's just a roller to make sure things fit. The shocks are in the stock mounts. If you are talking about the piece between the bottom mount and the bottom shock eye, that piece is there to extend the shocks to the stock length, it will not pivot. The shocks are multi adjustable for different applications. The lower eye will also screw in and out for a length adjustment.
...by the way, nice ride. Great color, really stands out.

I pushed my bikes out of the garrage and went varoom varoom while pushing
I laughed out loud so hard people are staring at me here at the library...
Of course, I rode the KZ1100A3 to get here. in 100+ degree heat, yay Iowa summer!
Not as much fun riding right now, I have to wear shorts, and anytime I hit decent speeds I get superheated oil droplets splashing up my shins from some seepage in the head gasket.
But just this morning I had 2 random dudes make comments at the gas station, 'nice bike' and 'havent seen one of those in a while'.
"you hear that baby? Those other men are jealous!" heh better rides than any girlfriend I had, at least as fussy and attention-starved. Love it...

Sunny sky, and about 250 kms/155 miles round trip.
Went to a meet first, then a ride with some buddies.
