Hmmm. 175 mph on a stock 700 ltd. That's pretty good.hausdok wrote: So one night after family visit I was headed home. Made the left turn and headed outta town and this bike comes screaming past me like I was backing up... Downshifted twice and caught up to this 1150 "tireshredder". We made a 35 mile trip in 12 minutes flat! I was watching road more than gages but that little stock 700 ltd was showing me 140 at a few glances and still had over 1k to red line. At the stop where I had to turn that guy just shook his head when he saw what he couldn't shake off, we ran neck to neck all the way.

In 2002, I had a '00 GSXR750 that was a blast to ride. A few friends and I were on a long straight (5 miles or so) in North GA and being young/stupid (take your pick), ran them down the road. One friend was on a new GSXR1000 and of course he slingshotted past us all. My bike reached an indicated 172MPH so probably a shade over 160 corrected. I've not touched that fast on or in anything since.
Of note, after my friend blew past us, we saw him again a mile or so down the road, close to the end of the straight. He was pulling his helmet off to speak with the Georgia State Trooper that was pulling up behind him. Knowing my speed and knowing that he was moving at a much quicker rate, the trooper must have clocked him at 150mph or more. At least that.

Which is why I said we were young and stupid. The multitude of things that could have gone wrong...it's staggering. And that is an area rife with deer and other wildlife. I'm surprised, some days, that I am even here to talk about these things.
