What is that oval-ish part with all the holes? I can’t place it. Sprocket cover?

On the left side ? 
yes, its the outside sprocket cover - many years ago when I was drag racing it I decided that drilling lots of holes was a good idea.

The cost vs. gains is not worth it sometimes. 1000s in titanium hardware, carbon fiber, etc. Just go take a healthy dump before your race.

I was having a look at the top end of the engine and found this little surprise.
I guess I will find the rest of the wheel when I take the sump off.

Personally I like the seat with the grab strap.  Kind of dresses things up a bit and gives you a place to slip your gloves into/under while taking a break from riding, but that's just me.

The correct seat in North America would not have a belt.  I'm not sure about Oz.
I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

yeah, I'm not really sure what the official rule was on the seat belt ?
looking at old photo's it would appear that the U.K. bikes that had the long rear mudguard seemed to have the belt.
Not sure if it was a thing in Australia, havent seen too many - maybe an option ?

I have dropped 37 items (some being pairs) at the Electroplater to be dechromed.
Having a chat to the plater and he was saying there are chemical supply issues as the industry gets all their stuff from China and its getting hard to get deliveries now.

Then of to the SKF bearing place and got a complete set of wheel bearings for $35 AUD

The engine is out of the frame, we hooked up the engine hoist and lifted it enough to separate the engine from the frame (took a bit of jiggling) and then pull the frame away to the left.
