Bottom line is, regardless of what anybody else thinks you need to feel comfortable with your decision when you hit the road.

That's easy for you to say! NO GO" in good old Germany.

Shifted focus today. Started on the aluminium tray for the electronics and finally got the dxf done for the engravers:
Unfortunately that will leave some very thin pieces of aluminum that will almost certainly break off. Rethought things and figured it's just better to have a silhouette:

Did some work on the tray under the seat today. Screws underneath will be replaced with countersink ones when I get some. Really need to build up a decent collection of small (M4, M5) screws.
Easily enough room for the electrics. Missing two standard automotive relays but they'll fit no problem. The Rectifier will actually be mounted on the bottom so it gets some air, but I'll put a step in the tray - basically means it will be in the same place as in the photo, but the tray will be above it.
I'll also be chopping the loop off the back and putting a tube across where the red line is below. The loop isn't good for anything where it is, the rear panel fits snug in the back of the tail and doesn't move at all. The only thing the loop is doing now it stopping the tail going down the last couple of millimetres needed to completly cover the panel.

Hey Calum, have you decided what you will be doing with the jig you made for the new shock mounts? Do you fancy selling it on or a trade?

If you want it, it's yours. Not sure how much shipping would cost, though. Would have to chuck everything on the scales. You have a few euros on your shipping account anyway

The jig is currently living in a drawer under the workbench and will probably stay there for years unless it's taken off my hands. It would need a new guide for drilling as I welded on some tubing to keep the shock mounts aligned during welding. The old drill guide would need to be turned down to 14mm to fit - or the tubing could just be cut off. The slots for attaching the bracing (where the small M5 screws are in the picture) also need some work. Some idiot mixed up radius and diameter when drawing them I just stuck some aluminium spacers in the slots and used the large washers you can see in the photo.Hey Calum, have you decided what you will be doing with the jig you made for the new shock mounts? A balanced and pinned crank
In all seriousness, that thing is just going to take up space - you can have it for the price of shipping. If you're going to be on the continent anytime soon that might make things easier. If you really want to trade it'll be for a pint of guinness and a full irish breakfast when I finally get over your way (never been, but it's been on the list for a while).

Sold, or as we call it here in Ireland "black stuff" and when you drop over, the summer is better as the rain is warmer. Take your time as im in no real hurry im going to be saving a frame form the scrap heap, this one to be exact. It has had a hard life by the looks of it.

That frame looks pretty rough! Is one of the seat tubes bent next to the front side cover mount?
I'll chuck everything on the scales and send you a PM when I know the shipping price. If you're not in a hurry I'll keep it here until I've finished the work on the frame - just in case

See the problem over here in Ireland is that there is no MOT or safety check in any fashion for motorbikes. This means anyone can take any bike that they might have got of their Dad ,uncle, brother or the fella down the road and chop it up in any way they want knowing that there is no government safety body to say "here now, you cant be doin that" (spoken with a deep Irish accent). So bikes are cut up for projects that never see the light of day, or ever see a Km of road from that day. This one is a streetfighter that was abandoned and the engine, running gear and body work sold on, and the frame chucked out in the rain but it comes with an Irish ownership. 1978 Z1000 A2 i got it for 350 euro, bit of a steal to be honest but the frame has been cut away from just before the shock mounts and a ... church window was welded in its place...
