That's an option too (potentially if I have enough meat/right spot to tie into) on the triple. I'll have to look into this one too. Thanks Leon

So i'm thinking I may need to change the stops idea up again. I tried to mock up your idea Leon, but that won't work for me. Something along the lines of your set up on the bike right now will work. I'll drill the lower triple, tap a bolt in, and weld tabs to the right and left side of the steering stem to act as stops. Kind of like this.

When I read your problem I thought of Summerlins idea, shame it wont work. Also Leons is along the same lines.
Your idea with the bolt and 2 lugs on the frame seems like a lot of messing around. Have you thought about looking to the top yoke (triple) and maybe using that along with one of the previous ideas?
Good luck

Davido- I really like Leon's idea with the two lugs on the top of the lower triple to knock the steering tube, but I can't make it work because the triples are angled so aggressively forward. The idea that Sumerlind shared with tapping the back of the triple and knocking bolts in is nice, but it would end up being more work than the one I just brain stormed (I think). With this new idea, I just have to drill the bolt into the centre of the triple, reinstall the triple, turn the bars and find the end range of motion, and tag on two nubs to stop the bolt.
This is the last big thing to do before it gets powder coated, so this is really getting to me...

your idea will work fine .
kinda the reverse of what i did.
have you thought of mounting a steering dampner and using it for the limits?

Leon- exactly, just a little back asswards to the usual set up
No, I actually haven't though of that. I didn't know you could set end range on those? It could be set up to have a limit left-right?

no you would have to mount it so when it bottomed out it would act as a stop.

Leon, can you suggest a stabilizer for me? Length with pics of mounting points would be graciously appreciated.

I may be mistaken but I remember hearing somewhere that using a steering stabilizer as steering stops isn't good. I think it wrecks the stabilizer and the limits may fail. I wasn't able to find anything with a quick search but it should be worth looking into if you're thinking of investing in a stabilizer.

Leon- i'll have to look into it a bit more.
Shimmy- if you've read it lately could you link me to it?
I might just drill a single hole in the front of the lower triple and tag on two stop bungs to the steering stem. This might just be the easiest thing to do for now

Ah, calling them steering dampers instead yielded a couple results:

Not sure if this is where I read it but they sound like they make the same points as I remember hearing.
