Alright guys, I need a little bit of help sorting an issue out. I'm onto the steering stops, and need to get something fabbed to me this work. As i'm running triple trees from Accutronix, and they're chromed cnc cut aluminum, I really don't want to hurt then if I don't have to. The lower tree has no steering stop knob. What i'm thinking of doing is somehow using the existing steering stop bung that's on the lower steering stem on the bike frame, and welding on almost a bumper arm to act as a stop. Any ideas or suggestions are welcome at this time :) i'll get pictures up soon of what i'm dealing with.

What i'm thinking of doing is welding on a tab to the stop bung on the frame to go left-right, parallel to the ground. On the end of that, i'd thread on/epoxy some hard rubber dampers to hit the lower triple tree where the tape is right now. Thoughts?

if you go any wider than what the existing bung is it is going to limit your movement .
unless you move it back somehow.

Leon- the existing bung leaves far too much free range due to the way the lower triple is set up. The vertical marks on the tape are where the forks spin to right now, and it's way to far left-right to use, so I need to limit the right-left swing a bit. A bit more brain scratching and I should have it. What have you done on your builds?

i see what your saying.
so your idea will probably work just fine.
you will know as soon as you mock it up.
i am doing the stops on the kz750 this evening so i will take pictures.
fortunately for me i haven't had to deal with it on one yet.

Scratch brain, fab. Scratch brain, fab. Repeat x10 until a solution surfaces. Oh the joys of building a custom bike :p

Sounds good, Leon. I'll check in later.

could you drill and tap some threaded holes where you could insert a couple of allen bolts to act as stops? Would need high grade so they wouldn't shear, but no heat to hurt the pretty triple. Could look clean.

alright the r1 front end we are using has some usable stops on em so i just fabricated a 1/4" "tongue" to utilize what already existed on the triple.

which got me about an eighth inch from the tank.

thats with no rubbers and the tank as far as it will go forward.

so hopefully with some rubber stops it will push it back a quarter of an inch and get us just a little more space.

prolly didn't help ya much  ,

Summerlin- i'm kind of leaning towards that option... I just swung by the shop and mocked up some measurements to give me an idea of where I could tap into the lower triple. It will be the simplest way to do it, and it's only two holes that won't be seen.

Leon- and advice is always appreciated. I'm kind of bummed the triples weren't set up stock with something like that. But it wouldn't be a custom build without some custom thinking ;)

So what i'm thinking is where the black marker line is on the triple, i'll drill and tap here, then like Summerlin said, toss in a few stainless Allen bolts. I have 3/8th depth to play with into the triple, which is plenty to knock a 5/16th bolt into. I think this may be the way to go...
