The installation is easy. The static timing is easy, but a bit akward. The timing is based on full advance so you have to hold the magnetic rotor full advanced while rotating the crank and watching for the test light or needle movement on a volt meter. Do that a couple times to make sure it's right, then move to the other 2 cylinders. I hadn't started her in 2 weeks and she fired up immediately. I didn't check, but I'm guessing I got the fat blue spark Patton is so fond of.

Awesome. Sounds like it should be a fairly quick swap over. Thanks, Alan!

On models with adjustable timing, am thinking that any ignition may be statically timed based on advance marks with the advancer weight arms held open.
Such method avoids any vagaries in advancer function between closed and open (resulting from such things as missing rubber pads on the weight arms).

Another option for static timing the Dyna-S is using the standard method of aligning the F mark with the case mark, which then relies on the advancer to properly perform the function it was designed to perform by advancing to the correct running position when the weight arms become spread wide open.

With Dyna-S or other ignition, it's a good idea to follow up static timing (engine off) with dynamic timing (engine running) by viewing alignment of the advancer marks with the case mark under a timing light.

If desired, further minor fine tuning adjustments may be made by slight movement of each Dyna-S pick-up coil to separately perfect 1/4 and 2/3 timing. Am thinking this feature might be more useful when installing Dyna-S in models produced without owner-adjustable ignition timing.

Good Fortune! :)

I am unsure if this is the proper way but when I time mine I just install a plug in the lead and slowly turn/adjust until it sparks at the proper time. I also fine tune the other pick up the same way.

Still working on it, just not much worth showing. Got the front brakes installed and made a splitter. Built a battery box, sorry no close up pic. Rear rim back from being straightened, polished, painted and tire mounted. Next up buy a chain, make a shift linkage, mount the lights and paint.

Tank and tail will be red with the white stripes and flat black between them. Side panels will probably be solid red. Front fender will be red down the middle and flat black down the fork leg protectors (if I use that fender).

Always here, just find there's a lot less bike time available now the weather is nicer. My daughter graduates high school tomorrow and next weekend is my annual beer drinking, dirt bike riding, pellet gun shooting mans weekend competition. I have a championship to protect so I can't miss it. Will need to get more creative at finding time to finish this up.
