my view on the paint work is that nobody knows what all the parts are going to look like when assembled except perhaps Hollywood. its certainly an exceptional rebuild, a lot of very very original thinking going on.

Thanks man!! I kind of feel like showing this shitty drawing I have with the full idea to tie it in for everyone to see but perhaps its best for it to come in pieces and watch it go from weird to cool.

Then I hand chopped the R1 fender as it was too round and spacey for the rest of the bike. I removed point on the bottom and cut a few inches of each end and rounded it back in shape by hand. I think I did a pretty good job actually.

Here is the original

Now on to the new carb, k this thing is massive, I think I might be a struggle to fit it in with an air filter actually. I "might" have to relocate the battery or something. After I am done painting the fins on the bike which is today I will look into it. My old car was 42mm this one is 57mm. I think its one of the biggest motorcycle single carbs out there.

Still more to update today..

I finally got the those welded top fins smooth enough for paint. I also finished my prep sanding on the body parts. The plan is to be painting next weekend.

The cut outs on the fender look good, well proportioned and natural, like it was made that way. The Bimota stickers would definitely look at home with an aluminum perimeter frame utilizing the engine as a stressed member :woohoo: Are you heading in that direction?

I know the frame your talking about I can appreciate it but I don't love it as it starts to resemble sport bikes of today which I don't like that much. Plus my TR1 has that frame (but better if you ask me) so I get my fill of it there.

I'm putting Bimota on the tank because the body kit is a Bimota kit. Plus between the kit, the modern additions, and the SC, people who don't recognize the KZ engine are going to be WTF bike is that!

Oh and those side cut-outs were stock R1. I took of the pointy area at the bottom of the fork area and cut each end. I thought about modifying it more but I was running out of ideas while still keeping it structurally stable. I was thinking of cutting the side 3D portions so it has a window.

I cant remember who was giving me the gears on me not wanting to cut the frame... I have decided to cut the frame in area's to clean it up if I have to.

Mods for the R1 swingarm to fit. We decided to re-use the R1 steering stem for the pivot bolt bushing for the R1 pivot tube sleeve. SA-WEET!!! :silly:

I see, I got confused thinking the black fender was original, and the yellow one was your modded part. I didn't see the cut outs on the black fender which made me think you had added them. Don't worry about cutting your frame, as long as you keep the important mounting points under control. If you have to move the frame in any way, make sure you can position and fixture your mounting points for welding. The R1 swingarm is one of the wider swingarms you can use. Most people don't go that route because of the extrawork involved. The last R1 arm I saw used, the guy widened his frame to fit the arm. Either way works, and either ways have their drawbacks. We're all watching B)
