KZ750E1 - FIGHTER Build
08 Sep 2012 01:22 - 08 Sep 2012 01:23
Okay, I have been waiting to start my build thread until I have actually started my build. I was trying to hold out until it was too cold to ride because my KZ was my daily rider. Well yesterday while it was low on gas I decided to start instead of filling it back up. My commute is short and the last tank lasted me about 3 weeks.
So I bought my bike about 5 months ago as a pile of parts. After 2 days I had it running. At day 5 I rode it to work and have been riding it ever since. About 3 months ago I found a 1997 GSXR 750 part out in Las Vegas. I live in Boise, ID. I bought front end and rear end complete with brakes, lines, wheels and tires for $200. I had the parts delivered to my brother in St George, UT. My dad picked them up there on his way through to eastern Idaho. He dropped them off at my sister's house in Idaho Falls where I had a friend pick them up and bring them to Boise! Took about 4 weeks to get to me but shipping was free. Since then I replaced the fork seals, cleaned up the parts and painted the wheels.
I know this will be an ongoing project for a while as I plan to tear down to the frame over the winter to paint/powdercoat everything.
Before (few days after bringing it home)
As of yesterday
Triple Conversions
Sleeve I made
I realize not all pics are great but I work when I can, night or day. I rarely carry a camera but always have my phone!
I'll keep the progress updated!

Well I really like it. It should be nice when done. What do you have in mind for paint?

Looks like it's going nicely! I just changed wheels out on mine to the 3 spoke like yours. Much easier to keep clean than the later model 6 spoke wheels. I like the open look better too. Keep the pics coming.

In the process of making shock mounts and figuring out angles and ride heights. I'm basically guessing on this stuff because I have no clue as what the factory GSXR config was. I did make an insert to go into my swinger to fit my factory KZ bolt and the factory GSXR bearings. Bored out a piece of tubing to fit the bolt snugly and then turned it down to press into the GSXR sleeve. Wish I had taken more pics of that part...
Also trying to figure out what chain and front offset sprockets I need to order. Can anyone tell me how to tell what my sprockets are? (ie 530 520 630). I also need a good, cheap source for the sprocket. What front tooth count should I go with? I think I want to match my front sprocket to my rear so I don't have to buy a new rear sprocket.

this will be cool to see come to being.
good job on the stem swap and the rest of conversion.
measure the width of your rear sprocket and post it up someone will tell you what pitch it is.
it's early,i'm groggy,i can't remember :pinch: .
but someone will.
keep us posted,

Looks like I need to run 520 chain/sprockets for clearance issues. Anyone make a 520 offset yet? From what I can tell the KZ750E is the same sprocket spline as the KZ1000. If no one makes it what is the best way to make your own?

I had Leon make my 520 out of my old old 630 and a new 520 measured my offset and he made it happen
