Are you going to end up putting a slight kick-up in the exhaust then as it's dragging? How does it handle/ride otherwise?

I haven't decided exactly what to do with the exhaust yet. From the 8-10 miles so far under 45mph, it is great!!650mod wrote: Mike,

The noise went away. Chain was a little tight to begin with and now it is super loose. Do new non o-ring chains stretch that fast?531blackbanshee wrote:

No, they barely stretch at all in many thousands of miles. I have had my D.I.D. o-ring chain on my bike for 18,000 miles and have only adjusted it about 1/8". I ride pretty hard (but I don't do wheelies) so I don't think the riding style has too much of an impact on chain stretch unless the bike is used on the track. I do lube the chain using Maxima Chain Wax every 3-500 miles.
I believe you identified the problem when you said "Chain was a little tight to begin with." The drive chain MUST have some slack in it when installed and adjusted. You should be able to move the center of the bottom run of chain up and down 20 - 30mm. The thing to keep in mind is that as you ride and the swing arm pivots up and down the distance between the center of the front sprocket and rear sprocket changes. This is because the center of the swing arm pivot and center of front sprocket are not concentric. So when you sit on the bike and go over a bump, and the swing arm moves up relative to the frame, the chain gets tighter. That's why if the chain starts out rather tight when the bike is just sitting at rest it will be forced to stretch when the bike is ridden, so that 20-30mm of slack is important. The other factor is the sprockets. New sprockets need to be installed with the new chain. The sprockets and chain wear as a set as the bike is ridden. So even though the old sprockets may not look too bad, the dimensions of the teeth have worn and won't correctly match the dimensions of the chain. This will cause premature chain wear. Also, if new sprockets are put on with an old chain the chain will wear out the new sprockets prematurely. Ed
