Thanks patton
I broke my own rule I always say never make several chganges at once well I opend the vents up on the carbs and hooked my vacum petcock back up without at least one long ride after my gearing change so I am not sure if all the putting aroung (rpm wise) and too rich or if the change from allowing the carbs to vent or my vacum petcock is sucking Fuel (vacum line is dry inside)
I think I will recap the vents unhook the petcock and spend the day on it with fresh plugs if it fouls a plug then i will assume the change in gearing is my carb culprit. according to my buddy that did the carbs the jets were right on the money for my set up (but then again he recapped the vents lol)

A vacuum hose will run from one vacuum nipple to the vacuum petcock.
The remaining unused vacuum nipples should be capped.
The two VENT nipples should exit to open air, usually via hoses routed to underneath the bike or underneath the seat.
Good Fortune!

Re: Thrown together to ride til winter

Ok really feeling like an idiot I think I have read so much I am staring to blurr things together
I got a set of NGK B8ES with all the sitting and idling when I got it back together fouled the pugs not a fan of NGK anyway
Go to the Auto Parts and tell them I want the Autolite equivelent 4053 os the number he goes back hands me a set of 403 i didnt notce the difference ran 200 miles or so in short rides put 50 miles on her in a day fouled the plugs but I had made some changesthat day right? opened the vents up and hooked the petcock up.
put anorher set of plugs in her few short rides it's all good. take her out to the blessing get 60 miles and she acts up but not to the point of stranding me get around 100 miles with the last 40 not as good as the 1st 60
Convinced 32 year old coils and a small cut in number 4 boot is my problem I buy coils hook em up
bike runs fine except it breaks up a little between 5000-8500rpm
if you read my earlier post I had decided to start all over recap vents unhook petcock vacum etc...
well reading up on plugs the 403 is a resistor plug with a b12 heat range according to the chart and the 4053 or 4054 are non resistor types with a heat range A12 not finding all the info I need for a propper revelation It is my hypothosis that the 600 miles I put on her with the 4053 plugs I got originally when I quit fouling plugs and only changed because i did the conversion and they were a little sooty should take me back to that condition onlty with my carbs properly venting and my petcock working correctly.
I anticipate my new coils will perform wonderfully and ease my mind a little.
I have also read somewhere you should not run both resistor wires and resistor plugs which I now do with the Accel wires and the 403 plug
if anyone has a non NGK plug prefference I would love to hear it. I was told about the Accel plug but I dont remember the number. I guess they have discontinued the 4053 but with my set up the 4054 should be a good choice. accept no one stocks it it is an order only or online purchase.

I'd start by capping off the vacuum ports, run the fuel valve on prime and up cap the vents. Next check the float level, I'd look to see if they are set too high. The hesitation in the middle of the rev range says lean but fouling says rich. You either don't have sufficient spark or fuel curve is off on the idle circuit. Is this happening in primarily town riding or open road, during riding or after a ride when you try to start it? It's one of those things that when you finally solve it you'll want to kick yourself cause it prolly going to be simple.

after a combination of both i ride thr route from my daughters 40-50mph 10 miles run then highway to
newburgh 13 miles open rd 55-70mph then 50mph. leaving newburgh rolled on the throthle broke up a little rode abut 10 miles parked it for an hour then about 6 miles at 30mph a dozen stop lights stopped at a store for 15 minutes made our way back to hwy 41 at about 40-50mph once on the hwy hit 3 stop lights ran 45-50 betrween lights at about 58 miles from starting point i drop a cylinder rollin on the throttle and kapow backires so pull over check wires and number 4 wire has a slight cut i hadnt noticed fire it up and all 4 are back about a mile from the park lose the cylinder again hung out there for an hour number 4 wire seemed loose put it bac on was hitting on all 4 but had no balls and would start breaking up vetween shifts unless I short shifted made it home parked it bought soome coils and the rest is in my previous post.
all of this started the day we had lunch and the same day I opened the vents and hooked up the petcock on the way to meet you.
if i throw a new set of plugs in it she if fine no stumble pulls hard from 0-9000rpm but with my limited riding time i hevent had the priviledge ofpoutting a set of plugs in and taking her for a 50 plus mile ride.
next weekend i plan on spending the whole weekend on it instead of make a change and leave

A little update
Called around noone had any Autolite 4054 Oreiley's had some NGK B7ES I know I said I didnt want to run them but gotta get what you can'
I bought 4 and ordered 4 4054's gapped them at .32 and installed them capped all my vacum ports and recapped the carb vents. I didnt even start it. I will take it on a 60 mile ride tomorrow to see if there is any change.
if it passes i will then reconnect the petcock and repeat.

NGK is the plug to run in these old bikes, B7ES or B8ES.
Something is causing the plug to fail, I would suspect valve clearances since you said earlier you were not sure of the clearance and it seems you have checked everything else.

Re: Thrown together to ride til winter

Havent posted anything in a while. mostly because I have been waiting on the time to spend
the entire day on my girl and see how she is acting. well today was that day.
my earlier fouling problems always started between 50 and 60 miles into a ride so today drove
out to the pure gas gas station filled er up with some real 93 octane 10 miles down decided a
nice country road with lots of turns and farm land was the perfect day. 22 miles hit went over
some railroad tracks at speed felt a little funnny but nothing felt wrong make a turn 2 miles
later something isnt right horrible noise from the rear
chain wheel or something was definately wrong. pull over shut her off and my taillight and licenseplate are toast. folded up between the rear wheel and the fin. completely destroyed.
was able to put the plate in my pocket and wire what was left of my taillight up out of the
way and put back home wind totally out of my sails put the bike up grabbed a beer and pouted
the rest of the afternoon so looks like this week O will be on the hunt for another taillight.
didnt get my 50 plus miles in but the bike is running great!!

If you are looking for something close to OE I can show you what I took off my tail fin when I eliminated all the stuff behind the seat. I won't be using any of it again as I am prepping for a bobber fender and solo seat.
Sorry to hear of the mishap but at least she's running soundly.
