Thrown together to ride til winter

harley minded folks just don't "get it".

they don't think anything exist besides a h-d :sick: .

i bought an 04 firefighter edition roadking,blah,blah whatever.

i bought it because i wanted something late model,fi,that was the way i wanted without having to do anything(seat,pipes etc...) and me and my wife could spend hours in the saddle comfortably.

you would not believe how many people say"now you can go riding" :pinch:

we have been "riding"for the last fouteen years we have been together,dipsh!t :ohmy: .

i have been riding since i got my first 1978 z1r when i was fifteen(still have it,to),i'm fourty one.

as you know aaron bikes are pretty specialised one bike won't do everything i want to do on two wheels.so i have 12 or so :woohoo: .

when we would ride to fayettville for bikes blues and barbeque me and my wife always hated to get stuck behind a bunch of folks on harleys wallowing through the corners.

when we would get a straight away we blow passed em all,like geez let us enjoy tossng this 33 year old muscle bike through some corners.

we went riding a couple weeks back and their was 7 of us on v-engined bikes wallowing through the corners :pinch:.
me and my wife look back and there is a guy on a sport bike behind us.we were like oh god that dude is hating being behind these ill handling pigs.

as soon as we got a little bit of a straight he comes around and we all scooted over and waved as he passed,because most of us knew exactly how he felt :whistle: .

i will never get rid of my kawi's other bikes don't stir my soul like my kz's do.

i have a buddy that has a cvo convertible with a 106ci.engine i stretched him out with my road king and he pulled it pretty good.
when we stopped he goes "you didn't think i was going to let you just run off and leave me did you?"

i said "well i hoped you wouldn't, :laugh: "
then he goes your engine is a 96ci. right?i said "no 88ci." he just kinda looked sick.

well he has never ridin with me on my z1r,and when we do i am going to run off and go hide from him :evil: .

lol yeah I gotta score to settle on my KZ with my brothers harley (may never happen)
and yeah a newer harley may be in my future but I hope my KZ is here forever.

but you are right got a buddy opening up a HD aftermarket parts and clothing shop in the
heart of "I own a harley so I am the Shiz" part of newburgh (yuppy town) They are life
long friends and don't get it. It's all about status not the culture.

I have been riding whatever I could since I was 9 or so Including a gorgeous Harley few years
back I wont knock what someone rides but I have no patience for upitty attitude because
I didn't go finance my bike for 15 years and overpay for the same jacket chaps shirt and
boots 15 other people are wearing at the same get together lol

When I first started hanging with th Quote bikers i was riding a 79 sportster and most all of em
rode big twins (most 10-20 yrs old)couple 1200's my little 1000 sporty's tonque would be hangin out trying to keep up
it was about riding not about how much you spent on your boots or the screamin eagle kit you had a shop install.

thanks Banshee appreciate all the help you and the other members have provided I will probably have the only "soft tail" KZ and maybe the only KZ at the Blessing. cant wait for comments!!

my experience has always been good when i go to mainly h-d events and places.

it seems people will walk passed a sea of $40k harleys to come and look at an old kz :evil: .

shoot man i am tickled to death to be able to help such a good guy out on such a cool bike as yours.

that is what makes this site great,bringing all us zedheads together to help each other keep these old bikes in the wind.

while we might be the only kawi freak in our town,village,neighborhood,state,province,parish whatev,here we are all Brothers of the Brand :evil: .

and we get to help,encourage,share with each other.
the helping part is what i am fortunate to have been able to be involved with some cool folks on some kickass builds(one of which was "thrown together to ride until winter" )i have made some great friends all thanks to,

well my son's step dad bought the expensive pad did an awesome job moulding the seat almost to the point no one could make a cover for it which he tried!

I got the call about 10:00 last night to see if I would try and make a cover they had already used up most of the material (freakin 47.00 a yard and changed their mind couple times) so I have my work cut out for me their design may change when I do it LOL

he sculpted a ridge the photo dont show well its pretty subtle and scalloped the back
they bought a faux ostrich in red that was too light so i ordered a ruby ostrich the black
is also a faux exotic leather the style escapes me.

i made my son do the riviting once i had the cover done and set












he didnt even let me clean th chalk marks off lol
gonna finish painting the inner fairing saturday may be riding
with him monday!!

The HD project should be done tomorrow hope to do a shake down ride with
my son and his stap dad got the inner fairing taped up graphics taped sprayed
the blsck, sprayed the cheese cloth did the airbrush sprayed the 1st coat of candy
something wasnt right second coat of candy and oh yeah the formula was updated on the
pint we had to order to finish it.

color was way off!! had them send over the concentrates and the old formula had to
remix and repaint needless to say we aere all pixxed! so got the silver repainted
before we left last night so Today about an hour of painting and...

I am KZ bound again

I am a self taught painter and that was 27 years ago it was a great learning experience
to use the modern paints correctly and get to absorb all I could from a master
painter bodyman learned alot about using clears correctly

It wasnt as much about the right equipment as it was about the quality of the materials.
and the old attage its all in the prep which is alot more than just sanding

I am gonna include a pic of the bike my exwifes current husband built for Daytona
This year as a rider not a show bike Then I am done with muddying up my build with
HD stuff It's time to get get back to all things KZ

Yeah it's pretty cool you take a tack rag unfold it mist it a little with paint just enough to take out some of the stickiness lay it over the silver and mist it kind of blochy remove it then layer your candy until you get the color/depth

its hard to describe other than I want to say a graffiti pattern under it thats almost not noticable but it is.

when i painted my tank last year(very 1st non spray can,paint job ever)i tried to get a louder affect.

i layed down a black base , then sprayed silver onto a crunched up plastic bag, then dabbed the silver from the bag, onto the black base coat. then layered the candy red over that. this is the paint that u see in my avitar pic.

Yeah you did a beautiful job i love it!

one of the things I have learned on this project the colors and scheme is loud so the effects need to be subtle i was gonna blast the black on the silver and he slowed me down and showed me and in the sun it is bad axx

Yea your right there. to much of a good thing can actually look bad.
accents r supposed to be just that. but ive seen where guys OD on an accent, then it can become just toooooo much. :sick:

went to worl on the bike and do some riding ended up with a 60.00 boyyle of vodka an didnt do any riding. kind of disappointed
