Try to find a product called Tal-Strip II. Also pick up some seran wrap. put a lot of stripper on, then wrap the thing fairly loosely with seran wrap to keep the fumes in (the fumes do the work). For a scraper I use old coffee can lids. You can cut them in any shape to conform to curves, and they are flexible enough to bend into corners if the radius is slightly smaller than the radius you cut in the lid. Seran wrap is the most important part. Sometimes if the paint you're removing is shitty enough, it will blow right off with a hot water pressure washer... Will save you tons of polishing time if you can avoid using abrasives to get the paint off.
Hope this helps someone, even though you did this a while ago.

1 thing i learned while painting my bike that seems to help. try to put the paint on tooooo thin. u dont want full coverage on the first coat. then add another coat, or 2,very thin. if u put it on too thick, i find that it tends to chip easier. the great thing about this paint is u can touch it up very quicly and easily.

Just keep the spider and start a new theme for your bike. LOL

Re: Thrown together to ride til winter

I havent updated in a while so thought I would share some of my most recent experiences.
The headlight bulb that came with my Headlight was never very bright almost non existant.
well it blew no biggy put a new bulb in it Awesome bright dropped the headlight took a chunck of paint off Sheez!!
went riding yesterday nealy 300 on the clock since the conversion no more bottoming out two up tightened the damper up on the shock
blew the headlight fuse it seems my repair of the handlebar switch was flawed. so I will
redo it this weekend. (really need a replacement) the wire is skinned up where the all come
together in the switch.
The bike is at my daughters house my son inlaw has to back it out of the garage occasionally
He likes to start it when his buddies come over the open vance and hines sounds really good but
it wants to foul the plugs occasionally when it gets started and not ridden. so i went back to the NGK plugs to see if i get better life out of em.
got an LTD headlight bracket ordered progress is slow but progress is progress right?
along with the front end conversion I need a new set of coils the andrews coils are from 1980 and 81 so I think replacement before any out of town rides would be good insurance.

Re: Thrown together to ride til winter

Well... I had to race back home and tell my version of this story before
Les gets home LMAO
I want to say thank you Patton for the info on the Petcock
I am gonna start at the beginning Got to town today Pulled the bike out wiped as
much of the mud off as I could . Pulled the vacum caps off the vent tubes on the
carb fired it up ran to the Auto parts store bought me a piece of vacum line
installed it in the parking lot took it for a cruise and Waalaahh!! My vacum actuated
petcock works flawlessly. This site is worth it's weight in gold!!
Les was gonna be in town today so we made arrangements to meet at a local resturaunt
to meet and axchange a few stories, and give him my triples for my front end swap.
its about 14 miles from my daughters house of really good riding roads, twists turns
etc.. so off we went me and my girl enjoying the ride out early gonna make a day of it
No work today now worries just a ride and get to meet one of the guys here that fabs
amazing stuff what could be better??
Bike ran flawlessly pulled into a convenience store about a mile from the resturaunt
come out bike doesnt turn over very fast and takes a couple revolutions to start,
normally it fires before you can get off the button. no biggy ride on up to the
resturaunt meet Les and They are wonderful have a great time talking about our builds
and showing off my attempt at a cool bike.
So moment of truth!! get on hit the button ans it doesn't hit on the first try!! well...
earlier it took 2 so hit the button and it turns over and over and over!!! Wont hit a lick!
No Biggy i'll push start it Nope!! Me being the brainiac I am didn't bring a plug
or a plug tool after I just changed the plugs knowing that my son inlaw and son had a
similar situation.
Sooo...
Thank god Les is the guy he is! He was in town picking some stuff up so we loaded the
bike on his trailer and he was kind enough to drive at least 14 miles out of his way
on his way back home
Backed it off the trailer and now nothing no power at all hit the button and nothing
What the Hell??
I don't think I have been this embarassed since my prom date stood me up in high school!
no I think I was more embarrased when I forgot to put my feet down lookin at the honeys
and fell over but not much!!
Who shows off their bike and it falls aprt while your eating a burger??
Sheez what a morning!!
check the Fuse and it was blown my high beam switch got pushed up while we were
loading it all I had was 2 30A when I figured it out so the headlight and main were both 30A
so the main blew Thank god for my new fuse panel.
The fuse panel had been bypassed when I bought the bike!
I pull a plug lay it on the head no spark check the gap and it's a full .035
just like I read up on .032-.035 close the gap a little hit it with my trusty KZR Zippo
for a minute pull another plug do the same install em and before I could get off the
button she fires! take it down the road she clears out and I regap the other 2 plugs
Les had advised me to close my gap on the Plugs Thanks man it was really nioe meeting
you guys and we owe you 2, so next time is on us!!
anyway it may be my imagination but after opening the vents the bike seems like it decels
better i noticed a little stumble 6000-6500rpm but then pulls like crazy through 8000
The stumble may have been insufficiant warm up and a cool day need to pull the plugs and
check them but I know I got more out of the Autolites
I know this is a copy of war and peace but needed to document my embarrassment of showing
my bike to one of the masters!!
Thanks again Les hope we got to do it again only without the truck and trailer thing!
