I've seen Larry's build Joe, in fact, I'm pretty sure I read it long before you did
But, this isn't Larry's build.....it's yours. Rememeber what I told you? Every build is going to be a little different, and yours is deffinately going to be a little different due to the mods you made to the engine mounts. As always, you can do what you want, it is your bike after all. Larrys a smart guy and I know his build has been road tested and is sound, but you aren't going to be able to copy his build weld for weld.
Are you sure he used angle and not square tubing? Even if he used angle, the way Larry oriented it will be stronger than the way your cross brace is oriented. It's little things like that that can make all the difference. I stand by my original recommendation of square or round tubing though.

well this is the idea. i went with tubing and plate. i will probably put a gusset in between the 2 plates and then weld plate on the top and botton to avoid any flex. better?

I like it better. Do you have any thicker plate? Like stated, you'll still want to box the brackets in.

Here's my thought. Triangulate it. Add two more pieces of steel plate as close to the pivot point back to the frame on an angle as close to 45 if you have the room.

'Zactly! That'll keep the mount from moving laterally and will be strong as hell. The vertical thickness of the plate will prevent vertical movement as you designed it but with the addition of the triangulation, you'll double that and prevent lateral movement as well.

I would use tubing if you have it, instead of the plate. Here is my top shock mount Joe, with the triangulation that redline was talking about

Round tube in combo with the flat plate you already have mocked up would great. Nice suggestion porchev914!
