Joe's '78 kz1000 build

03 Dec 2010 06:25 - 03 Dec 2010 06:26
#415141
Hi guys, been a while. Its time i time i started this bike build finally. Slowely i should get enough $ to pay for the parts i need. My goal is to have a running bike by the summer.
Here is where I am now. Parts on garage floor, but i kept everything orginized pretty well and labeled. I am going to paint the frame this weekend.

It's good to see some progress Joe. Did you decide on a color yet, or just going with plack?

Hmmm...I have a 1977 KZ1000A1 in exactly the same condition...so since you are doing yours, how about if I drop mine off at your place and you could do mine at the same time?

Well this may take a while, but thats ok. I only have a lil sand left so i have my roomy grabbing 4 bags this evening. I supose i need to bring in and cover the frame at night so i dont get surface rust. I hope to be done sunday....then again i have obligations this weekend. It may be longer.

Tell him to get 6 bags. I went through 300 lbs after I used aircraft stripper on my frame. Hopefully your blaster is a little more efficient than mine.

good your working on it again.....i have a reputation as the biggest slacker around, and for a while there i was worried you were moving in on my title....now i can relax again...ahhhhhh.........much better

my compressor and blaster are slow too.....i though about getting a tarp when i do the z-1 frame in spring and making a 8'x8' frame of 2x6 like for a concrete pad form then laying the tarp over the frame and setting the bike frame in the basin it forms.......then reclaiming some of the sand.......i was told by a painter that some sands can leave a bb/pebbley finish that will show in the final paint a bit.........what kinda primer and paint are you gonna spray it.......

plus the compressor made sooooo much noise doing a header this year i felt kinda bad for folks in my canyon....being a sunday and all.....

looks good so far...

not sure what color yet. i may even do the swing arm and other parts of the bike. all i know is i am out of sand. my compressor works great at 125 psi, but when it goes down to 70 psi i waste sand.
i really would like to get the motor back together, but till $ comes in, the frame will do.
what besides the frame and swing arm would look good powder coated the same color?
