Those Sword Heritage wheels from PMC are just awesome. Too bad they translate to about $3k for the pair without the import costs/taxes.

Go with caswells!

Yeah, I have the Eastwood kit and it's really just a tin plating kit. The Caswell kit is supposed to be the way to go for home kits. For the finish you want you'll need blue chromate and brightener. However, I got all of this stuff plated for $75 by a local plating company. I also found a place online that will do small quantities for $50, 2 week turnaround. I 'm sending them some parts off my Z1 and some other stuff I forgot for my other project, they also do yellow chromate (cad-type) finish, $50.

so are you saying the bolt kit you have does not give the right finish..i read on one suppliers site/auction that they said to do the motor/polish gig first on each items as that is where the shine comes form ,knocking down the roguh ,then the tin kit works really well...the plus for me would be...i hope

that i could say...be working on brake pads and set the kit up in a few minutes...buff the bolts and tin...come back and install em...do a bolt here,a set there ,as i find the need to remove tyhem for a task any way..or pull one set a weekend and do em....is the set up and storage easy...is the set up and wait for curing easy...did you buff/smooth them first...

your pics are what got me thinking i want this for my bikes

lot of questions i know....

on some other basket case projects the palting contractor sounds the route for sure...

thanks

I totally wish that I had all my bolts re-plated before I assembled my bike. Now I'm in the same boat. I will have to do a few at a time or just replace as I go to really get the 100% finished look that I want. No big though, I have time. I'm interested in one of these kits as well.

No, it's not the right finish. The finish from the Eastwood kit looks like aluminum, it's only a tin plate. If you look closely at original/new hardware you'll see it has a blue hue to it. That's from the chromate.

Here's a pic showing the difference: i114.photobucket.com/albums/n248/Jeekinz...20KX250/IMG_0129.jpg

There's also no brightener which is why they tell you to polish them. Just like anything else, the polish will eventually dull out. It's also very time consuming. Unless you build a barrel you have to string each piece of hardware seperately. One M10x40 bolt take about 3 minutes in the electrolyte, then a minute in clean water, then you have to polish it. $75 is cheap after doing a couple dozen parts, trust me. The only pain about sending stuff out is you will probobly (hopefully not) forget something. My local guy said the minimum charge is $75, that covers about a 5 gallon container of hardware. So if I were you, I'd strip my bike down, clean and send out everything including axles, chain adjusters, etc. That's all the stuff I'm going to gather for my next grouping.

Not many.

It really depends on how deep you want to go into details. I have OCD, so it bites me in the ass. for my Z1 I replaced alot of bolts from Lowes, only problem is they have markings on the heads where the original hardware was plain. That's your cheapest route and you can swap them out at your leisure. I saved the original hardware and sent it out to be replated along with all my MX extra nuts and bolts. If it's a special piece of hardware, say something like a suspension bolt, then they can cost upwards of $35-45. That KX project I'm working on, the suspension linkage bolts were $17 ea, so it made sense for me to replate them.

If you find you need alot of the same size bolt then check out Bolt MC Hardware. www.boltmotorcyclehardware.com/?gclid=CM...nKg6gCFQQ65QoduGlWsg There are like 18 case bolts all the same size on my KX so I just bought refill bags for a coupla bucks each.

Hardware is probobly the single most frustrating & costly aspect of a restoration aside from sourcing oem/nos parts.

So..work is sucking hard...i am leaving to drive in @ 530 am and yawning after sleeping for 8-10 hrs already that night....stupid stress stuff...but...i am super grateful to be working at all...or breathing for that matter...still stress eats it's own portions and will not be spared....

knarley little april showers to bring may flowers...all week...spring is here and the green hills are begging a ride

I shot these from the fourth floor of a parking structure at work....I have been getting entertained by this pair of crows for two years..they are nesting now and this one was buzzing me as i was trying to shoot the clouds and hills...here is the "crows nest" forty feet up in a tree top...

i am outside most of the day and these guys are blast to watch...i have a pocket with unsalted full shell peanuts and the pair follow me and talk all day...

Oh...and i came home to a big box today...wonder what this could be...lets see???
