I just got in, damn it's cold out there, 70 kph winds and -15 with windchill...my bike is in a drafty old garage, so even with the heaters turned up to max there is noway I was painting tonight. I did get my last remaining valve in, and put my recently acquired block/head o-rings and head gasket on. I also did some more prep work on the painting front.
I mentioned in either this thread or my overlapping oil ring thread that I put a bit of a gouge in the top of one of my cylinders, well here it is. I put the head on now so I will see how it will fare, do you think it will be ok?
Anyways, going to bed to watch some Dexter now...then read the Bourne Identity, L8er
p.s. I was reading about when I put the head nuts back in that the copper washers go at the corners where the oil stud galleys are. The manual says that if the washers are worn or damaged to get new ones as they act like a gasket. Could I reuse the old ones and dab a bit of gasket goo on them to seal the studs better?

Don't be so cheap!! If you can get em easy, and the book says replace em. Then replace em. You're in way too deep now. You don't want to tear it apart again later to replace some washers when YOU COULD BE OUT RIDING!!

ok ok, I won't be so cheap! I feel bad now...haha! anyways, I put the head back on (with new copper washers from the stealership!) and noticed that I didn't have any washers for under the head bolts...the 2 little bolts. I don't think they were there before, but I think I need a washer between the steel bolt and the aluminum head right?
Next is putting the cams in! hell yeah, I have been looking forward to this for a while now!

heat the copper washers up cherry red with a prpoane torch and toss em in a bucket of water or snow bank or your beer, anything cold and watch em grow to origional size. then you can reuse them with no goop
