Tonight I took it easy and dust did a trial run on the painting.

I like the colour, what do you think? I have an effex clearcoat as well that is under one coat of the metalcast, so it is not popping out as much as it does on the top, I like it more subtle, I'll check it out in full daylight. Anyways, I will strip this off and do it properly now that I know I like the look.

nice color........

i like the color also. B) id say spend more time on prep though, might i suggest letting paint dry for a few days before you sand it down other wise it might be a sticky mess.im no painter but it looks like youre not getting enough overlap as youre painting, which is causing the dark streaks B)

I didn't sand the paint off, I took my heatgun to it, it works like a charm, especially since the paint wasn't fully cured. The dark streaks are actually from over prepping it. I have refinished several guitars, all using nitrocellulose lacquer, and with lacquers you really have to sand everything smooth between coats because as the paint dries (over months) imperfections will slowly appear. The paint I used on the bike was duplicolour Metalcast. After adhesion promoter and primer you spray some "ground coat" which is like a metallic silver base coat which shines through the translucent green giving an anodized look, kind of like a candy coat. I sanded the ground coat smooth before the green assuming it was just like the lacquers I am used to, but in fact the instructions say not to sand, and to spray the colour coat within 1 hour of the ground coat. Since I sanded the silver ground coat I ended up smoothing out some of the metal flakes causing they to sit flat instead of stand up like they are supposed to to give the metallic effect. Under different light the dark streaks and light streaks interchange. I am glad I did a practice run, as now I know how this stuff works, and my next time will look really nice.

thanks boys! I need to get some more propane tonight to heat the garage, and I will start stripping the tank with my heat gun. I can't wait to see it either!

Upon spraying the fairing I got some overspray on the inside and realized I never thought about what I will do it the inside of it. I am not sure if I want to spray it too, or clean it up after and leave it black...any opinions?

I got my stuff from z1 today and before I put the head on, is there a particular side that goes up or down on the head gasket?
