I painted the stock CSR Rear fender Black with "POR-15" Chassis gloss black. and mooved the rear turn signals forward on the frame. I do not like the rear mounted configuration as on the orryginal.

As you can tell by mye vintage Signature Avader, I started to work on my first Kaw back in 1978 when I bought my Z1-R. In 1980 I painted all the Honolulu HPD Kaws to their signature blue & white. Than I bought My 1300, in 79 and worked on that. I took both of the bikes off the island in 1981 when I left the sqadron and I have only added to my collection since. The "Skill" as you call it, only coms with many years of making mistakes and lerning the hardway. Fortunately none of my mistakes were too grave and L am here to talk about it. ( I did flip my Z1-R end over end at the drag-strip onetime in 1980, and unbelivabely the only dammage I caused was a snapped in half clutch lever. I still have that clutch lever on the bike finding that the shortie is more convenient for me.)

Otto I'm curious about what you mean when you say "guncoated" did you use bluing from a gun shop? I've been toying with the idea of trying some chemical blueing on some engine covers to see how it would work out. I'm getting real tired of sanding and polishing aluminium parts and I'm looking for something less labor intensive that will still achieve a nice look.

Gun-Kote Is a Proces somewhere between Powder coating and painting. That is where the similarities end. After preping the metal, Any Metal, it must be heated to 120-130f than the pigment is sprayed on (in liquid form). The metal than must quickly be put back in the oven for an hour at the same temperature. After this the oven is turned up to 325-330f max and allowed to bake for exactly 45 minutes. The edvantages are that the film is only .3 to 1 Thousandth thick so it will not screw up any holes also if it scratches, the corosion will not creap under the serounding areas to the scratch. It is duable in clear and a veriety of colors. Here is an example of some; J clutch cover in black (my own custom process which is about 2.5 Thou thick), 1300 valvecover in Tytanium, GPX brake brackets in brass, Z-1 sidecover in clear. I did en entyre Tryumph engine for a guy. Head in Aluminum silver Cylindrs in black Sidecovers in clear. Etc. Etc.

I started useing Avon tires in Hawaii back in 1979 they have always performed much better for me than Dunlops Connys Michelines etc. I liked them so much infact that I have Avons on my Jaguar XJR. They have been the best tires I have ever used. I bought new Avons for my KZ1300 (1400) project also.themachine wrote:
