Is that rear rim a Takasago?  The key flag may have come from a KLR.  I had one with mine.

The rims are both Akront (Spain) alloy rims.

OK, thanks.  I was pretty sure the rear wasn't OEM.

I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

While I am waiting for parts at the Powdercoater and Hydroblaster I have tried to give the alloy polishing a break for a while to allow my fingers to recover, so I have started doing what needs to be done behind the engine covers.
First up, the inner sprocket cover needs the 3 seals punched out and replaced with new ones, a clean up and sorting out some fasteners, then screwed on with a fresh gasket.  The new neural switch gets bolted in too.

Now while I'm peeking behind the dynamo cover I realise that to re fit the starter I am going to need the starter idle gears (that connect the starter gear to the ring gear) and they were probably thrown out years ago.
I put a call out on the FB Z1 group and someone local to me actually has a spare one in their shed, so I make a visit today and a starter gear is obtained, good score !  I had to order the connecting pin from the local Kawasaki dealer and that will be a 4 week wait.

There should be a thin o ring on your final output shaft, on the outboard side of the bearing.

I was just thinking of mentioning that o-ring, between the bearing and the sprocket spacer. Good call Hardrock.

Its been all go today - I also got the head and barrel back from hydroblast.
I have already masked up and painted the cylinder barrel in black satin.

yes, the final clean will have to wait coz I pulled the helicoil out of one of the plug holes.

I have been a bit distracted with other stuff (the hillclimb car) but have still managed to get some parts polished and painted.

When I got the head back from hydroblasting I realised that when the end spark plug was pulled out it took the helicoil with it !  I didnt have any 14mm inserts so I ordered a spark plug repair kit -  when the kit arrived it had very short inserts so that was a waste of time.  Will have to drive down to the industrial bearing place to get the correct length ones.

I cleaned up the front disc, it was a rusty piece of junk, and gave it a coat of high temp silver.
dropped the adaptor and disc on the wheel just for a self satisfying look.
