I like all well done bikes  . Stock or modified.
 I'm real comfortable  in my own skin with my LTD
After all.  How more period correct  can I be as the original owner  of my bike  . With  almost all mods done  in the early 80's
A Hotrod time capsule.  If I had a second  LTD , I would keep it stock, but my Turbo is just how I like it.

The written word is very powerful and often misinterpreted (I know this first hand !) but I think comments like "would look more at home on a custom bike effort" can easily be interpreted as deeply derogatory (I am sure that wasn't the intention) to people who have spent a huge amount of time and money creating their vision. I appreciate that many "modified" bikes are visually offensive and in some cases downright dangerous (IMHO) however they are their owners vision.

I don't know anyone who would be offended or believe that statement to be derogatory.  Period.

This discussion had me thinking about houses funnily enough.  Our street was built in '95 and there was only a few blocks that werent built on, but have been built on recently.  Our street faces a marina so the builds have to be custom 2 story.  Every time we walk the dogs up the street the Mrs always comments on those houses, "why didnt they put a balcony there"  "why is that window facing that way for" "why did they orientate the windows that way" "what where they thinking putting copper sheeting on the side"
Some people do the same thing with cars and motorcycles, if you spend much time at cruises or shows you will hear people ask those "why" questions, especially when customising is involved.
People tend to apply their own thoughts, standards and ideology to anything that is other than cookie cutter.

And sometimes "why" turns into "WTF"....  seen a few of them..!

blackozvet post=871104the sprocket cover needed some extra work, but I did give it a 1200 with Autosol and it didnt seem to hurt.
only 3 more to go.
I'm trying to get a clean shine on the covers, but not so shiny I can do my makeup in it ! 

 

Within the limits of photography, that looks like a good rendition of the stock finish.

I have got the bits back from the Hydroblast (glass bead and water) treatment.
Now you would think that parts that have been de-chromed AND hydroblasted would be good to go, but not in my world.
another 2 hours just to clean up and polish the rear hub. 

 

I like the look of newly blasted engine parts.

Not sure where you're located but I had a set of aluminum rims refinished by TCR in Cali.  I did all the straightening/removed big scratches, they polished and clear anodize.

I did the fork sliders on our 80' Suzuki GS1100E with a 6" course flat file and 400g, that's it. I wanted a factory looking finish.

I have cleaned up the rear hub a bit, and painted the front hub.
Started putting the new wheel bearings in, so that everything can go to be laced up.

if they had alloy polishing at the current Commonwealth Games I think I would be in contention for a gold medal ! 
The engine covers are done - now I can take them all back off and get on with putting things together.
