I need to cut it flush to clearance the chain. I was hoping not to have weld the stud where I have to cut it.

you can trim it flush.the nut on the other end will keep it from loosening out of the frame.

If you cut the bolt and grind the bushing, are there still threads left? If so Lock Tight.

A heat gun such as the gf's hairdryer works wonders on loosening frame studs...(with her permission of course lol) :)

You can double nut it & remove it like an exhaust stud

I don't have a stud in front of me, but not sure how many threads are available for two nuts. Might be enough ..might not be.

If you can cut it flush without removing it, that's your best bet. If it's a stock stud then there is plenty of thread left even after you cut it. That's a pretty common mod for the wider tire set-ups.

If you decide to remove it, you can double nut the stud on the outside part, where the footpeg washer and acorn nut would go. If it's really tight in the frame, vise grips or a professional stud remover might be the only way. The double nut technique can mess up the threads sometimes. As mentioned, heat helps but that's always scary with a powder coated frame!

I'd go ahead and grind it off Jon. Grinding it might keep it from coming out and touch up should be easy.
