I was hoping to take advantage of the RS36 carbs with the bigger cams. Steve do you think I would have to replace the cam bearings if I replace the cams later to the Web Cams?

If they're good now, I don't see why they wouldn't be good later. Once you get your jetting dialed in, it shouldn't be hard to dial them in again.

I don't know if any of it is good. They came off of a 1075 KZ with Andrews 2X cams. The guy I bought them from never ran them, sold them for a friend I believe. The whole bike is going to be one giant experiment. 1075, cams, ignition, carbs none of it was part of the original plan. I guess I just stop here and put the cams on the shelf and see how I like the Andrews 1X cams first. Use them to dial the motor in and then adjust it if I drop the Web cams in. Under buckets scare me a bit. Seems like you have to take the cam shafts out to adjust lash. That increases the likelihood of stripping the camshaft retainer bolts.

Good plan. I never liked the idea of removing the cams for lash. Big bore/radical cams yes. I'd put in Heli coils but now the Time certs look good. My 1015 runs like a scalded cat with my 33 Miks and 1X cams. I'd like more power but that can wait.

Yeah, been pretty scarce, but on the come back. I kept Dave in the loop but Dad had been on a downhill slide last couple years and we were butt crack deep getting in the new house and bikes were on the back burner. We just ordered the last metal and picked up the last insulation for the new shop today so should be in it and running by end of Nov. then it's a free for all catch up!!

As for the shim under conversion, it can be done on the motor without pulling the head but, that isn't what I recommend. It's a great time to at least do a touchup on the seats and change stem seals and springs. You can run 650/750 or the 83/84 gpz 1100 retainers and buckets for this, these aren't so aggressive that you would need to bump up to titanium retainers and after market buckets. Buzz Larry Cavanaugh or Joe Hopper, them guys get you set up right along with Ape Jay as well. Now, for future adjustments, it's a little bit more labor intensive but try and look up the maintenance schedule for an 84 gpz 1100, same setup with .375 cams, I'm betting you wouldn't be in your motor as much as they were so you should be able to go a long way. I don't know the numbers for that interval but I can't imagine it would be burdensome by any means. The 650 guys been doing it all along, ask Ed about his and his frequency, might sway some fears for ya.

Ps, shop heading along!!!

Thanks Les, that's great information as usual. Happy to see you are getting things back on track. Shop looks great hope everything is going in a positive direction for you.

Spent some time on the bike tonight getting the C5 ignition and coils wired in. Need to finish up the wiring to the Trail Tech dash board and L.E.D. headlamp installed. Then program the M-unit and I should be ready for a start up. I think I may save the Web cams for an upgrade later. I was happy with the performance stock and it was 100% at that do to bad valve seals and worn rings. Right now I really just want to ride the poss out of it. Two years of no riding is starting to eat at me.

My cams showed up yesterday, got a hell of a deal on them. I will order some adjustable cam gears and put them on the self. I didn't need them but could not pass up the deal.
