try using a R6 or R1 stock throttle pipes, they have pretty large diameter drums..... and you can always turn your own form delrin, not that hard to do

Gamma, nice story! reminds that when i decided to go vintage racing, i simply went to see an event, and shoot quite a few megs of photos, helped both as inspiration and resource when i was building my first CB500/4 racer!

I could not pass that up. If it didn't work on the Superbike, it would on the LTD FOR SURE!!!!

It finally made it here today, and it a piece of art in my book. Raw aluminum with all the machining marks left on it!!!!!! Plus it fits the Superbike, and it works like a throttle should, no play, and no steps when you open or close it!!!! Unlike the motion pro piece of junk. I am going to let my machinist take a look at it and see if he can reduce the gap between both pieces after you tighten it down. Besides that I love it!!!!

Wow that's nice. does it use a metal throttle tube?

another road racer?! WOW, great... for five years i felt like i was the only guy on earth racing a vintage kawi....

I was actually behind starting the racing section in the forum

could be nice if you presented yourself and your bike in a separate thread as not to hijack gamma's

what bike you race, what series? pics would be nice

Sorry, I road race a 2015 BMW S1000RR with CMRA, so it's probably not applicable to this forum. I love seeing the old KZ road racing pictures though.

No, it has a plastic throttle tube. Even the late model CNC billet throttle on my GSXR uses a plastic tube!!!!

The throttle tube on the left is the one from the 1/4 throttle, and the one on the right is what comes stock on most vintage Japanese bikes with slide valve carbs. You can see the difference on where the cable barrels attach to the throttle tube. That bigger diameter is what makes the throttle quicker!!!!

Finally got around to taking the throttle apart again to take some photos for you.

I found some different throttle tubes packed away in my parts collection and one had even a larger diameter than the tube that came with the Yoshimura throttle. I just had to see how much quicker it would make this throttle. I now have a 1/8 turn throttle when using this throttle tube!!!! It is as quick as the throttle that came on my KZ1000S1. I can't wait to try on the street. As long as I don't hit any big bumps on the street with this throttle, it should be alright!!! I hope.

so what was keeping it from bolting together with no gap?

my guess is the handlebar hole

No, the diameter of the cutout for the handlebar is just a bit too small!!! The billet throttle I have on my GSXR does bolt together with very little gap. My machinist can fix it no problem, but I have to send him both throttles so he can measure up the GSXR throttle, and open up the KZ throttle to that size so there is no gap. I am riding the GSXR already this year, and I don't want to be without a running bike right now.
